WotBS Questions for first time running WotbS

Hello,

first of all thank you for bringing the Adventure Path to 5e. After reading through the Campaign Guide I knew I wanted to play or run this as a gm. Since nobody else would run it, I just did it myself.

There are however a few questions that one of you might be able to answer for me.

In the Campaign Guide there is a part which does a little introduction by telling different storys out of the view of different people. One of those is Kathor looking over the street ahead of the ambush. He says, that there is a large man together with Torrent but he is not mentioned for the rest of the whole adventure. Anyone knows if he is there later or was this just an oversight that he was never mentioned again?
Another thing is the fallen devil encounter. I run the game for a group of 5 people. It says, that I should add 40hp for every PC larger then 4. But I think that is just too much isnt it? I wanted to probably settle with around 30hp that he has since that seems reasonable.

Also whoever made the Roll20 Conversion: Thank you very much but pls remove your PCs from the gauntlet map if u have the chance to do so =)
Was going crazy since I could not find Byron Trinja or Zed anywhere. Maybe that is also a Roll20 Bug but I tried 2 different games and both times I added the Adventure it put those 3 on the Battle Map.

Also, but I already read that in another thread, you should add how people can actually get to the conclusion about Shealis beeing in Cabals school of magic. I pretty much would have taken the same approach about Rivereye telling information to the group but before that I was confused on how the party should get the clue.

Anyway Thank you for the conversion and I hope that my party will like it as much as I did when I read through it ^^

I wasn't involved with the 5e conversion, but I wonder if the Kathor bit mentioning another person is just an 'insert PC here' sort of thing.

It's from the prologue that was first inserted in adventure 6 before it was again used at the beginning of the omnibus version.

@Salicus, regarding Torrent's bodyguard, the prologue says:

No doubt he was some kind of bodyguard, who would escort Torrent to her mysterious meeting. But he was unlikely to accompany her to the meeting itself; surely the Resistance would not trust any Ragesian, even a turncoat, to be privy to its secretive dealings.

and sure enough, he is never mentioned again. In the film version, the actor probably wouldn't even get a credit.

For fallen devil, the 30 hp is fine.

And yes, I really need to fix those two errors. You can also go to the errata page and get a better map for the gauntlet.

Thank you very much. I began the first session yesterday and everyone was having fun as far as I could tell. I saw the errata yesterday and will use the newer version for my game.
Encounters felt a bit easy although that's more of a the group having a 19 ac paladin and me having really low luck in the dice rolls.

Have to say that it is really weird having Diogenes actually duel vs Shealis without having her components bag stolen. That guy literally has no damage spells except one in the 5e Version. Was it the same in the other Versions as well? In the end my group just straight up ganged up on her and she pretty much had nowhere to run. Fireballs were counterspelled by Diogenes but still...that guy seriously lacks damage. Also can I say that maybe it would be a good idea to give the spell of Duelists Etiquette to them both? The Flavor text says it was pretty much designed for magic duels. Feels odd not to have it beeing used. I didnt use it because I said that they pretty much hate each others gut and dont care.

Yes, he only had acid arrow in the 3.5 version as well. Diogenes is more about outsmarting his opponents than blowing them to smithereens, and there is more than one way to win at spelldueling. One of Diogenes' best tools is hideous laughter. If Shealis stays prone for 2 turns because of that spell, Diogenes wins.

As for duelist's etiquette, that is more a spell for the second-year students to cast in preparation for duels (at least in my head cannon). It is a ritual, so most anyone, including Diogenes, would have it in their spell book. Most 5e stat blocks don't include the spell book spells, and I did not include them in stat blocks unless they were explicitly included in the 3.5 edition.
