Hey am new to these type of games. So i have a few questions?

I am playing the game with my wife and 2 friends one of them are the story teller. Well since we started he has limited characters background and if he doesnt like an idea he will veto it. He will try to play his own character. He doesnt allow us to read the rules and if we break a "rule" he will tell us we cant do it.

For some reason he is making us play with a D4 D6 D10 dices but i have read you should only be using a D10 dice also he is using a D20 dice??
He made us play through the background on the characters.

He is limiting moves and argue that it isnt realistic??Because the technology has to be the same as our world.. Yet he has a holographic room that can really hurt you ??

I was forces in to using a human character but i believed that it was to boring so i decided to make him a cyborg he said it was ok. but then he limited my character ability.also he limits the usefulness of my character.

Yea there are a few things about my character that blurys the line between possible and improbable ..

he told one of us that our character shouldn't be illiterate for some reason.

The story line is that we are a hell boy government run program and free will isnt truly available to us because we have to do what they tell us there are a few time where we are free but he will debate moves and stuff..

He also have 4 characters that he is playing himself and all of them have there own personality pages that completely over powers ours and because he uses a d20 it imposable to beat him

Also i recently died and he is telling me i have to make a new character or make my character in to a ghoul or vamp but i will lose all my intelligent and skills rack up already I know there should be ways to get a character back from the dead with out all that crap..

he made a 12 year old character an 3 alpha we found out that there should only be one per pack and that she to young... basiclly he is ignoring rules...

there is more i just cant remember the rest

It sounds like he is not using the rules of the New World of Darkness as written. It also sounds like he wants to play in his own campaign and is perhaps fearful the players will disrupt his story. If you are notr having fun you should talk to him about it. But if you are having fun then enjoy the game.

Howdy zan, this is not a roleplaying game. This is your friend jerking you around and making you listen to a story he made up, using rules he made up to keep you in line.

Also, you're right that NWoD only uses a d10. You might be playing Monte Cook's World of Darkness if all those dice are involved. That is not necessarily related to your friend jerking you around, but it depends on who you ask.

Wish this was the case then it would make everything easier and Zan wouldn't be asking. Thing is the book is definitely not Monte Cook's WoD book, it's the NWoD with Forsaken, Requiem, and Mage. Our friend is constantly going through the books, trying to make certain things so, and so forth. He even tried to make it where the pack leader would have eventually try courting a 12 year old werewolf(my character) because she was in the pack for 6 years. Time and time again because I went and got the books, I proved he's not playing by said rules and poked holes in his story with Forsaken that I just finally got to reading the rulebook and everything is not being played right.

Zan was taking two damage per turn rather than the one each turn, we're usually rolling just the d10 and once in a blue the d4 and have done nothing with the d6. He's also saying he made the story up with a generator which is why he said 1 person had to be a human which I believe should not be the case at all. We've talked to him time and time again sadly.

A lot of the behaviours sound like standard new-DM mistakes. It's unfortunate that they're all happening at once.

Powerful DM-PCs, railroading (as in refusing PC choices, and requiring arbitrary solutions required to escape situations), inconsistent campaign world ("realistic" world, except where its not), a defensiveness regarding players knowing the rules, and an apparent misunderstanding as to the rule basics (like what dice are in use).

There are really two viable ways to handle the situation.

If you're having fun then let it ride and have fun with the understanding that the experience may have little to do with the base game expectations.

If you're not having fun (or the fun section is buried too far beneath the unfun) then calmly explain why you're not having fun (the rulings are arbitrary, the game rules seem inconsistent, you want to see the situation evolve based upon your choices as opposed to the DM choices, it is frustrating that the game is more about some NPCs than the PCs, and the campaign world seems inconsistent in the application of 'normal'). Have the group talk to see if the situation can be salvaged and decide whether to salvage the campaign, restart, pick a different Storyteller, or stop playing the RPG altogether.

Get out. Now. Failing that, get out ASAP. I mean, all of you. Well, all of you except the "ST".

Run something yourself if you must - whatever works. Nearly any alternative will be an improvement, and I doubt you'd do worse.

well am not really having much fun.. The issues started when we first played since my character was a robotic tech i wanted him to build his own body but he said it was unrealistic because it would be hard for him to sync up limbs with the nerves system and so on. So he didnt allow that. So i came up with oh well he had a medic robot he was working for and i wanted him to repair him in his lab with his own tech. Well he took the idea and all the robot did was repaired him in the home bases of the government building with the government tech which i didn't want. He didn't allow me to have a few ability saying that it would be to unrealistic...Yet the game is bases where magic and supernatural rules apply s which i would think will allow a few out of the box idea applies

basically the story is that its a normal world and there is only limited amount of people knowing about the supernatural so its limit fights and there is allot of down time in play....

We basiclly spent 2 days in a plane doing nothing and another day driving in a limo
it took 3 week of playing to get to the action.

All new DMs and Storytellers should be given the basic advice in Dogs in the Vineyard. "Roll the dice or say yes".

Everything you've written is the Storyteller on a power trip at the expense of the players. Which is exactly how to do it wrong. The Storyteller/DM/GM/Host/Whatever gets the world. The players get the protagonists. And if the ST doesn't want the spotlight on the protagonists, (s)he should give up now and let someone else take over.

And seriously, it sounds as if your friend is making every mistake in the new Storyteller's book (the new DM's one has much more "Monty Haul-ism" where the PCs are given more loot than they can carry and that does incredibly powerful stuff, making the game unplayable*, but I digress). No gaming is better than bad gaming - I'd advise quitting entirely (and hopefully not giving up on the hobby although your experience sounds bad enough that I wouldn't blame you if you did**).

* A favourite here is The Deck of Many Things, which gives you a random and extremely powerful result based on whatever card you draw. Put that into a campaign and any semblance of character continuity will be destroyed.

** I'd leave the WoD entirely for a bit even if it looks good. Something else and a different DM/ST for a while would help. If you want recommendations, just ask - although there will be a fairly large argument I expect.

The thing is that i was iffy about the game in the first point. I never was really intrested in it but i wanted to make my wife happy because she always wanted to replay these games and i want to keep and open mind but with a guy stomping on my nuts every min just :):):):)ing lame...

We are thinking about doing our own game my wife Dl the game book and thats how we know he is :):):):):):):):)ting all over us. My other friend is doing the right think and speaking up every BS. Am doing the same thing but i try being nice about it.
