Questions on Creature Creation

Here, I've attempted a conversion of the Athach to get myself used to creature creation. Do Initiative, AC, Fort/Ref/Will get modified according to ability? Maybe I'm stuck in 3.5. I can't find the place in the book where it addresses this.

Yes they do. I cant give you the page number right now since they frown on me bringing my game books to work. It is in the section called Monster creation I think.

Initiative is pretty much your Dex mod (+8), and you can optionally add some amount to that (+2 and +4 being popular). It encourages you to add init for certain mob types in the DMG.

For the defenses, set them to whatever feels appropriate for the monster. Feel free to make those make sense for your ability scores.

Oh, and you should list them in the new pairings - Str/Dex, Dex/Int, Wis/Cha - it'll take a bit to get used to it, but it is for a reason :)

So, maybe your Athach would have AC 27, Fortitude 29, Reflex 24, Will 24 as an example. For some reason I'd pictured the Athach as an elite, though.

And his Init should be +8 (from Dex)
