Questions regarding DnD Miniatures

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Okay, I'm going to getting some DnD miniatures for Christmas and I am curious to know if there is a complete listing of all miniatures released to date and the expansion set they belong to. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Oryan77! Just curious: what is the difference between the Entry Packs and the Starter Sets? Also, where are the minis from these sets listed? Also is there a price guide for DDMs?
Entry Packs were released at the same time as the Harbinger set (September 2003) and are generally no longer available. They contained 16 miniatures from the Harbinger set (1 rare, 5 uncommon, 10 common), along with the rules booklet, map, tiles, counters, and a d20.

Starter Sets were released at the same time as the Aberrations set (September 2004) and are still widely available for retail price or less. They were meant as a replacement for the Entry Pack (which was out of production at that point in time), and contained 12 minis from Aberrations (1 rare, 3 uncommon, 8 common), plus the revised rules booklet, new tiles, etc.

The only available price guide for DDM is maintained by Zenako (of MaxMinis) and can be found here. The price guide is formed as an average of mini prices from a selected list of online shops. Generally speaking, you can buy minis on eBay for about 60-80% of their price guide value. Note that prices for minis from out-of-print sets (Harbinger, Dragoneye, Archfiends, and Giants of Legend) can be quite high. Archfiends Drizzt regularly fetches $50.

You mean unopened out-of-print boosters? There may be a few (check out the stores mentioned in Zenako's guide), but those boosters sell for three or four times their original retail price. I've seen Harbinger Starter Sets sell for $60 (retail was $20). Plus, that way you are risking getting a very low-value rare (i.e. Vadania from Harbinger, or Aspect of Demogorgon from Archfiends).

There are usually a few full sets floating for sale on eBay, and their prices are lower than purchasing individual minis. I think a Harbinger set (80 minis) goes for somewhere close to $500.

Another thing: minis without cards are worth less (sometimes even much less) than those that have cards. If you only need minis for RPG purposes, it may be worth it to purchase them cardless to get a better price. I still hate myself for not buying a cardless Displacer Beast for $15 when I had the chance.

I just bought some 150+ D&D minis on-line. Don't actually play the game, just got them for D&D. I ordered through 3 companies:
http://www.frpgames.com/
PopularCollections.com
chumbatoys.com

I'm having some problems with the last one (order was missing some figures, trying to figure out what happened with them), but the first two got me what I wanted quickly and at good prices. I basically bought tons of cheap figures for use as baddies when I DM... About $130.00 total.

I also have an unresolved problem with Chumba Toys, they are officially on my bad vendor list. I have bought hundreds of minis online and can heartily recommend using The Card Vault. They only show the minis they have in stock, their prices and shipping charges are reasonable, they are quick to ship and, in the one instance I had a problem, they resolved it in less than 24 hours (on a weekend no less!).
