How heavy is one cubic inch of iron or steel?

Doing some research for homebrew spellbook construction and thought came up.

Okay now for the next question; how much would it cost to acquire a one inch thick cubic inch osf steel in a modern stable economy?

Just one? Probably not much. Find a machine shop and call them, they may think you're odd but you'll have your answer.

Yeah, a cubic inch. My bad.
No problem there.
One cubic inch that is one inch thick.
No, no, no! A one inch square that is one inch thick is a one inch cube (an object with definate size and shape, and with a volume of one cubic inch). A one inch cube is always one inch thick. A one inch cube "that is one inch thick" is no different from a one inch square that is one inch wide (or long): there's no point in mentioning the "that is one inch thick" part (i.e. there's no way for a one inch cube to be e.g. 2 inches thick).

For good measure, a one inch cube with a spissitude of one inch is a one inch hypercube (with "spissitude" being a possible name for the 4th entry in the list that starts with "length", "breadth", and "height").
