Quick question on Spontaneous casting

Belares

First Post
We had something come up in our last game that we have not seen before and that is about what spells can be spontaneous cast by a cleric. Assuming the Cleric is good he can spontaneous cast any of his non-domain spells as healing spells. The players book states "any spell can be spontaneous cast if the descriptor in the spell says cure". Ok we know that but has anyone seen with all the newer books out if any other "healing type" spells can be spontaneous cast? Eg. Regenerate lightwnds, lesser vigor, maybe even lessor restoration line of spells as it "heals" in another form. Also can you spontaneous cast mass spells of curing and heal? This is just a idea of ours and would like some feedback as it would bolster the already good abilties of clerics. We are considering "house" ruling it if we cannot find any other information on it.

Should be pretty clear:

SRD said:
The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not a domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).

To be more precise, you can spontaneouly cast the following core spells and none else:

Cure Minor Wounds
Cure Light Wounds
Cure Moderate Wounds
Cure Serious Wounds
Cure Critical Wounds
Mass Cure Light Wounds
Mass Cure Moderate Wounds
Mass Cure Serious Wounds
Mass Cure Critical Wounds

All the other spells you mentioned are not "Cure" spells, although they are of the "Healing" type. You may introduce a HR (or something like a feat/feat group/special ability) to let them spontaneously cast Healing spells, but they are quite many. In the PHB all the following have the "Healing" type (not including the "cure" above):

Delay Poison
Neutralize Poison
Remove Blindness/Deafness
Remove Disease
Remove Paralysis

Heal
Heal Mount (Paladins only)
Mass Heal
Regenerate
Lesser Restoration
Restoration
Greater Restoration

Raise Dead
Resurrection
True Resurrection

Making them ALL spontaneous is a huge boost!

Just the "cure" spells can be spont cast. This includes the mass "cure" spells as well. HR to add more healing spells to a cleric's spont casting would get silly-powerful, and I wouldn't recommend it, yikes.

RE: Only spells with "Cure" in its name can be spontaniously cast.

Not if you're an evil cleric. Then you can spontaniously cast any spell with "Inflict" in the spell name. :p
