D&D 3E/3.5 Quickling as 3.5 Player race?

Hi,

I'm new to converting monsters into playable characters, but I have had my eyes set on playing a quickling for a while.

So I found some 3.0 rules for the creature from Tome of Horrors on this site: http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/fey/quickling.htm and then I found Soldarin's ECL Claculator. Using the text and not the calculator itself led me to calculate the ECL for a Quickling to be 7(1 HD +6 LA).

So I ask, what do you people think? Is ECL 7 a good number?

P.S. I wasn't sure what Category to put this in.

wow is that an unplayable race.
permanent haste (3.5) useless for casters, and you do not want to make full attacks.
invisibility that ends when you attack
useless SLA's
-2 str, +14 dx, +4 int,+4wis,+2 chr (or4)
move 210(240 w/haste)

you have no defense but high AC, and speed
1 attack and you are splattered
the only comparable is a pixe who at least has DR/10, SR and improved invis. (+4)
and a succubus (for 1 absurdly high stat) +6 (12 with HD)

I would say +4, as you are no more dangerous than a pixe.
+5 at the most.

If there was ever an example of ecl not working (though on the other hand a "fast fey" race could be fun).

-Note 1) I did now someone who played a quickling in a 2nd ed one shot.
-Note 2) I would love to see the 4th ed approach to these.

I've heard of the Quickened template before and it's never appealed to me, which is why I'm trying to smooth out the ECL for this race.

Here's what I have for a stat block and what Soldarin's ECL calculator calls for:

240' Base Land speed, 3.8 ECL

-2 Str -0.2
+16 Dex +0.6
+4 Int +0.2
+4 Wis +0.2
+4 Cha +0.2

Racial Feat +0.2

3-9 spells per day +0.5
2 minor powers: +0.4

Total: 6.3 ECL
I had seven before because I used different calculations

However, if I were to change the natural invisibility to greater invisibility @ will (Free action) it would bump the ECL to 6.8 or even 7

I think that Soldarin erred on the side of caution when creating this system because it's a bit underpowered for it's ECL, but I figured that I'd get a few opinions on the matter before I apply it.

As long as you know that the attack is coming, you are fine. Especially if you invest two levels into Warblade or some other class that grants Uncanny Dodge fairly early. You just keep using spring attack and keep yourself at more than double the distance that the creature can move and you will be untouchable as long as they aren't scattered all over the place.

In the 3.5 ToH revised the quickling is 2 Fey HD, +4 LA, str -2, dex +14, int, wis, and cha +4, blur when acting, invisible when motionless, 1/day dancing lights, levitate, flare, shatter, ventriloquism, plus DR 5/cold iron, evasion, uncanny dodge, +2 racial on listen, search, spot, and +8 on hide in temperate forests and bonus mobility, spring attack, and weapon finesse.

I think I might have heard that, but It's not a sourcebook I have access to.

Are you talking about the quickened template Andre showed us earlier?
