R2: Rats in a Maze [Manzanita judging]

Fimble McGee, Gnome Illusionist

Fimble tries his best to look confident, intimidating, and not completely lost. Currently, he can quite honestly say that he is none of those, and it's proving a difficult task, especially the intimidating part.

Dak gives Tor a sour look, then turns his attention back to Metrius. "So, I, or someone matching my description, has been spotted at the site of some robberies. And now you want to know what I've been doing. Well, I'm currently looking for work as I've only been in town for about a week. See, I lost my last job because these two," here he points at Tor and Gideon, " decided to tell my employer some tall tales about me." Now he turns his attention fully to Tor & Gideon. "That's right, you self righteous sons of goblins, Mr. Travers fired me when he returned to the ranch because of the lies you filled his head with. Tell me, what did I do to you to cause you to make up stories that I was working with those hobgoblin raiders?"

Gideon gives Dak a flinty glare and growls out, "When did you grow a spine? I'm not sure what you've heard, but we don't like being lied to. Thieves from Lathim?" Gideon lets out a disgusted snort and leans forward in his chair, "Do you know what we've found so far in our investigation? Lies and rats. Rats, Dak, like you."

Tor bites his tongue, not wanting to join in angrilly behind Gideon.

You can't kill someone just because your frustrated. He tells himself. Even if he is a jerk. Even if it seems like a really, really good idea at the moment...

He lets his glare communicate his irritation and desire for violence, figuring that Dak won't know he actually intends self restraint.

Dak seems to shrink a little under Gideon's tongue and Tor's stare. "Look, I don't know what you want from me, but I didn't rob anybody. Like I've said, I've only been in town for less than a week."

Dak looks at Tor. "Rats, what rats? The only rats I'm familiar with are the ones I chased out of the barn at Travers' place."

"Then start by talking about those."
"Not much to say, really. They're huge suckers and they tended to get into everything. The feed, the tack, everything. I mean there's nothing those vermin wouldn't try to eat."
