Race-favoritism?

Does anyone else have players that have a tendency to play members of a few races, and no one ever plays anything else? All my players ever are is humans, elves, and half-elves. Where are the dwarves? The Halflings? The Halforcs? The gnomes? In the name of all that is holy, WHERE ARE THE GNOMES!?!?!? So, does anyone else have this problem, and what have you come up with to make the other races seem more attractive? (Other than making races more/less powerful. You guys are better than that.)

My players pretty much play anything (with a few exceptions). Humans are darn common - as are half-fiends, tieflings, etc., if they're available.

In my present campaign, humans are the only playable race.

In past campaigns, I've had elves, half-elves, dwarves & humans.

In one game, our party consists entirely of elves.

In another I'm the token gnome amid a group of humans.

Elves.
Halflings.
Humans.

I've got one guy willing to go beyond and play the occasional orc or gnome...

I haven't had one dwarf yet...

I think it's the style of person, more or less. Most gamers are more attracted to the dextrous, pretty, or "evil-cool" PC races, because that's more the PC race they want to live out as.

I fully intend to play some cool characters of unusual races and turn them appealing for the PC's in the co-DM's campaign.

Right now, Kobold who will turn into a dragon.

Later, maybe a Dwarven monk or Sohei....:)

I'm the stereotypical "reaches for the MM every time he makes a new character" guy, though with Third Edition, I've finally started playing Humans again.

When I DM, I usually get a pretty good mix. Most of my players at any given time are Human, but then they'll bust out with an Elf, or a Dwarf, or a Goblin. My first Planescape (2e) game, I had to sit down with one of the players to figure out rules for Mythic Era Klingons-- which was one of the best characters I've ever DM'd for.

Most DMs/campaigns are painfully human centric. In a lot of games I've played DMs avoid real interaction with non-human races because they don't really want to think about it. So a lot of people avoid them.

My game has humans, and one elf. That's it. I love dwarves but people don't play them because they're concerned that their interactions would be limited. Whole story lines will bypass your character if the DM isn't terribly creative.

Elves, half-elves, and humans mostly. A little mix, but very little.
I'm actually coming up with a new character now, a drunken master. Not sure if he should be human or dwarf. Suggestions?

We go through stages. When we first started up 3e it seemed everyone wanted to be a 1/2 Orc. One person even played a 1/2 Orc Sorcerer with STR=5. It was strange but so well done (cheers Bill if you read this) Now we seem to be halve 1/2 elfs and then a good mix from there.
