This is true, however, Canada is implementing laws (or trying to) to make all online purchases subject to the same taxes as anywhere else. NY State already does this as well.

You already have to pay GST on online purchases from within Canada. If you buy from the U.S., and the price of the item is declared with customs, they slap GST plus a $5 handling fee on the item, and invoice you for it. But they've always done that. It's not something new now that the dollar is higher.
