Kishane

The revenant, dark walkers of the night. Kishane are the spring from which such myths as that of the vampyre are born. Stronger, and faster than others, and more seductive kishane are seen as a corruption, a cancer in the world in which they live. That is, if they are even recognized at all. In some regions such as the dragonsteeth, and in the Halatmylanas near Ravenlock townsfolk fear night, and distrust strangers in their homes because of the kishane. Whether living ferally in the mountains or as gypsies on the open roads of the Hearth, kishane are a dangerous race, one of cunning, and lusts.
Personality: Kishane are a violent people in general, enjoying destruction, and passion equally. Rarely ever do kishane travel alone prefering the safety of numbers. Kishane love darkness, and blood colored wines. Their eyes are ceaseless in their search for a victim worth their time, a distinguishing fact that makes them appear picky, and sadistic even on their best days. Kishane are arrogant, and self-assured rarely ever questioning their hunches, instead prefering to act on a whim. While not necessary, kishane prefer to drink the blood of others either during or after they have leeched the essence of their victims. Many a kishane suffers from sadistic, and masochistic tendancies.
Physical Description: Kishane vary from heights of as small as 4'5" feet tall to heights of 6'0" feet tall and higher, with an average height of 5'8" feet tall. They also varry in hair and eye color, though in regards to the later most often their eyes appear to be bloodshot, or red-rimmed or diseased in some way, even going so far as to appear as if she were blind. Their skin color however is always pale, and typically sickly blue, or porcellan colored. Kishane are cold to the touch, and their palms are always slightly clammy. Often mistaken for undead Kishane do nothing to either continue or extinguish these beliefs, they simply do not care how others see them so long as they are left to their own devices.
Alignment: Kishane tend towards evil alignments, or at the best neutrality, and are almost always of a chaotic bent, though their are a few who respect the laws of others.
Lands and Settlements: Feral kishane, or those that choose to live in the mountains, or wilderness have steadily started to grow in the last few hundred years, and are becoming a problem for those areas where they have settled. Those that choose the life of the wayfarer, and become a gypsy call their wagons home. Most kishane live within the lands of those they prey on moving by necessaty from one land to another to stay out of sight.
Focus: Shadows, Destruction, Earth [Campaign Specific rules]
Beliefs: Kishane rarely find the need to worship any particular deity though many have taken a liking to the theology of Thorne. Some do venerate the elemental lords though for reasons that are less religious than practical. Only a few choose the path of the Savior, or of the Maiden seeing both as to flowery or jovial for their likes. The kishane, and the Inquisition have a standing war with one another that has lasted for nearly seventy years.
Language: Kishane rarely speak their own language in the company of other races, as it is considered to them one of the sacred precepts of their race that no other learn it. Like the ekeb, kishane realized long ago the usefulness of language, though unlike the ekeb, kishane have utilized this knowledge wisely as a means of hiding among the other races.
Relations: Of all the races no other is as ethnocentric as the kishane, who view other races as no more than cattle for their uses. Of the other races only one, the skyren, repels them. At one time the skyren were their prefered prey, now the skyren have adapted to the threat and have created the most vile scent that any kishane has ever smelt.
Adventuring Kishane: Adventuring kishane find themselves in more of the unseen places of the world than any other, working as spies, and assassins, among other things has given them ample opportunity to find a niche within more civilized society.
Character Names: Kishane prefer to use names that are complex and meaningful to them, names that stem from the mythologies and superstitions of others are quite common. As well as names that deal with night, dreams and the like.
Male Names: Adam, Alacran, Baal, Kaine, Momos, Morpheus, Razael, Zaraphael
Female Names: Avara, Borea, Epona, Lilith, Luna, Selene, Thera, Zakasa
Clan Names: Kishane travel in gypsy clans each with its own surname, examples of these are Aranrhas (Nighttraveler), Meleglas (Moonwhisper), Nialros ( Darkwanderer).

Kishane Racial Traits:
•+4 Dexterity, +2 Strength, +2 Charisma, -2 Constitution
Medium sized; as medium sized creatures kishane have no special bonuses or penalties due to size.
•Kishane base speed is 30 Feet.
Low-light vision: a kishane can see four times that of a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight and other instances of poor illumination.
Energy leech (ex): Kishane are able to draw the essence of life from a target simply by giving them a look, and transfering into energy that acts as if they had rested for a full nights rest. On a successful gaze attack, a kishane begins to drain her victim dealing 1 point of temporary constitution damage each round that she holds her gaze. On each successful drain attack she gains 5 points of temporary hit points. Victims of such attacks are rarely killed by the kishanes gaze, but rarely remember what happened after the event. A successful will save DC25 allows the victim to remember small glimpses of the occurance, but even so most victims spread tales of revenants, causing wide spread hysteria in some lands, and bizare burial practices in others.
Kishane vulnerabilities: while extremely powerful all kishane have following vulnerabilities; Kishane are vulnerable to garlic, silver, cold iron, and running water. While not hurt by the first two kishane have a strong dislike for both and are hesitant to near anyone who happens to carry such materials. To do so a kishane must make a will save DC20 in order to approach, this is the same for running water. Cold Iron on the other hand does double damage to a kishane. In addition, kishane have a very limited vulnerability to sunlight, in sunlight a kishane looses her racial bonus to spot checks, and gains a -1 to armor class due to the iretation that the light causes their skin.
• +2 racial bonus to bluff, hide, and move silently checks.
• +4 Racial bonus to listen, search, and spot checks. Kishane have better eyes and ears than those of other races. In addition to this Kishane have a limited scent ability which allows them to track by scent in a radius of 10ft.
• +2 racial bonus to saving throws verses fear spells and effects.
• Automatic languages: Kishay, and Common (any); Bonus Languages any.
• Favored Class: Rogue, Warlock, or wayfarer A multiclass kishane's rogue class does not count in determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing (See XP for Multiclass Characters, Page 60 of the Players Handbook version 3.5) Kishane are natural predators of the night, prefering the night as their active period.

Ekeb

In their homeland ekeb are known for their prophets and seers. As adventurers ekeb tend to be gatherers of information, spies, scholars, tellers of tales, and thieves. Culturally, ekeb do not believe in conflict preferring instead to change situations from behind the scenes all the while portraying themselves as a peaceful, and neutral party in the dealings of other races. Ekeb are covered in fur that ripples in response to emotional states they have tapered ears and both male and femal ekeba sport beards. They average at about 5 Ft. 4 In. Tall and a tend to live slightly longer than most humans. Their fur colors come in many colors from dark browns to snow white, or ebony. The rarest of which is the blonde ekeba, a sign of their nameless gods of prosperity to a household. The caste system of the ekeb is based off of fur color with the Blondes being the Vedani, and the whites the Veda.
Personality: Under the peaceful exterior ekeba are manipulative, crafty, curious, and vindictive by nature and more than a little bit paranoid. They are an ethnocentric race that think of themselves as superior to other races, a fact which has caused them more than a little strife. They can be aggrivating at times but ekeba are also capable of great loyalty, and bravery when it is called for.
Alignment: Ekeb tend towards neutrality, and have a strong respect for law which gives them a tendancy to lean on a more lawful alignment.
Society and Culture: Ekeba culture is broken up into multiple layers of castes from the Veda or priestly class to the Wanashe or Workman class. Adventuring ekeba tend to have come from the later of these two classes, as a means of excaping a life of toiling in the fields of their Vedani or Masters. The lower castes are forbidden to carry weapons of any kind, so they have created many forms of martial arts, a few of which have made it west into the Maidens Hearth.
Their are many ethnic groups among the ekeb including the Tamu a offshoot of the ekeb, that live in the Eastern Enet marshes. The ekeb and their ethnic cousins tend to get along for the most part, though sporadically throughout their history the ekeb, and the Tamu have broken out in conflict over land, or over religious difference. ekeb prefer hot foods, and fast music played on the three stringed Asabbe a lyre like instrument, symbols, and tambourines. They like fast paced music, and have developed many dances that have circulated throughout the hearth, and have become popular mainly due to the skyren women who perform the complicated dances in bars and taverns throughout the maidens hearth, One such dance, the Kabuthi, has been outlawed in Grale for its indecency.
Lands and Settlements: Ekeb have a country in the south called Kinath-Enet, and though they have closed their borders in the last few hundred years ekeb are still found adventuring in the Maidens Hearth. They live in the southern steppes east of Rhys, and along the fallen Coasts of the Crimson Tide. Only their chief port city of Torolis is open to traders from the Crimson Sea, and even then foreign traders are allowed only within the Foreign Quarter, and within the Cities seaside Bazaars, and along the wharf district.
Focus: Water, Wind, Shadow
Beliefs: Religiously the ekeb worship a pantheon of god and goddesses that are unique to their race, Framapasus the Lord of the Sky is their cheif deity. For more on the religion of the ekeb see chapter 7.
Language: Ekeba speak and read both Ekeb, and Common, and are well versed in many of the other languages of the world. Ekeba, tend to collect languages as a hobby, and trade them among each other as gifts. Ekeb are one of the few races that know Draconic, and the other secret languages including Druidic. Only the Skyren, and their body speech elude the Ekeb's many attempts at translation. It is said the first to do so will restore the Ekeb to their former glory and undo the Caste system. A fact for which many Ekeb Vedani feel great respect, and have on many occasions denied access to Ekeb lands to skyren traders.
Relations: Ekeb are a closed society which has closeted themselves off from other races for more than five hundred years. What little interaction they have with other races is done in a restricted environment. Individual ekeb, and those that adventure find that life outside of ekeb lands is more fulfilling and less restricted than that of those who conform to the caste system.
Character Names: Ekeb prefer short, and simple descriptive names that tend to describe the quality or coloration of their fur. Draka, a popular name among the Ekeb means Soft, or downy, and is a common name among male and female Ekeb.
Male Names: Barsk, Carsk, Corsk, Draka, Forsk, Geska, Harsk, Jarkan, Karka, Keskan, Koth, Laskan, Melan, Tav, Veskan, Zorska
Female Names: Carsa, Corsa, Drasa, Forsa, Gessa, Harsa, Jarkara, Kara, Keshana, Kotha, Laskana, Melanna, Tavara, Veska, Zorsa
Family Names: Var'Elon, Fer'Daen, Fel'Oene, Oene'Var, Lya'oen, Fer'yla, Fel'Lon
Famous Ekeba: Tav Var'Elon, Harsa Lya'Daen, Mela Oene'Var, Forsk Fey'Lya

Ekeb Racial Traits:
•+2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution; ekeb are quick and dexterous, but are less robust than most other races.
Medium: As Medium creatures, ekeb have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
•Ekeb Base speed is 30 Feet
Fast learner (Ex): Ekeb have an uncanny ability to learn new things at an exceptionally fast rate at first level and every level thereafter ekeb gain an additional +4 skill points that are able to be used for any one single skill that they have seen in use, this ability includes spoken languages, but does not include written languages (unless the language is read vocally while the ekeb is able to follow along)
•+2 racial bonus to listen, search, and spot checks
•+4 racial bonus to Knowledge (history), Gather information, survival checks
Automatic languages: Ekeba, and Common; Bonus Languages Any.
Favored Class: Rogue A Multiclass ekeba's rogue levels do not count in determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing (See XP for Multiclass Characters, Page 60 of the Players Handbook version 3.5)

Skyren

" The jewels of Grale can not compare to her lips that grace my own"
High Lord Michelen Vittorian C. 2600 LC writing about the
Courtesan Arielle D'Fanon, a Skyren actress, and singer.

Skyren live freely among the lands of the Elves, and Humans as musicians, and entertainers. They are well known for their ability to dance, their music, and great beauty. A select few of them have made their way into legend, working as escorts for the rich, and nobility alike. They are the Diva, and the Poetesses, they are in short the Dream of the poorer man, and the luxury of the wealthy. Skyren favor things exotic, and beautiful. Above all they love adventure, and tales told from the luxury of heroes satin sheets. They love gifts, and romances, and sensuality. Most of all Skyren crave attention.
Personality: Skyren are fun-loving, tempestuous, and free-spirited. They have a vibrancy that others find attractive, and they go out of their way to be loved, and typically return it with loyalty and affection. Some though have learned that the world is not so peaceful, and so fun-loving and have learned to emulate other races cunning, and scheming by using their natural defenses as weapons in which to manipulate others for their own desires.
Appearance: Skyren are a Fey race that are near to humans in appearance. They have multicolored hair that at first glance appears to be of a more normal coloration but which shimmers, and shines when lit by the sun. They have a tendency for wearing their hair long and open and typically decorated with diverse bangles and beads. They have a second inner eyelid that protects them from sudden bursts of light, and flying debris. They are typically taller than the average humanoid standing between 5ft.6 inches and 6ft.7 inches in height and typically are lighter than others their height. They are extremely long lived, but do not share the long view of the Elves.
Skyren are one of the most charismatic of races, and are considered to be aesthetically pleasing by most of the other races with the notable exception of the Kishane who have a strong distrust for many of the other races in the Hearth. For the Kishane thought the distrust is much more deeper than for other races. The Skyren can exude scent at will, and these chemicals are used to manipulate the attitude, or behavior of others. With their higher scent abilities the Kishane can smell these scent, and even though they still have affect on them, find them to be revolting. Skyren use their scent infrequently, however, and usually only as a method of defense.
At a glance Skyren would seem to be a female exclusive race. And for the most part this would be correct. Only five percent of all Skyren born are male, and of these only one percent have the scent. Because of this shortage of males, Skyren women tend to mate with non Skyren in order to continue the race. Skyren born of this type of pairing are 95% genetically similar to their mothers, and can possibly retain memories, and that their mother might of had. Skyren become fertile only towards the end of their lives, and at other key phases. When a skyren reaches the age of 20 she goes through a brief period of fertility, and then again at forty, and so on. Female Skyren are outgoing, and open while their male counterparts are close-tongued, and pensive. Male Skyren find employment either as the protectors and companions of their female superiors or as bards, scholars, or wayfarers. In any case all Skyren have an irresistible calling for travel, and adventure, a calling that can be quite hard for her companions to deal with, a reason why most prefer to travel Alone.
Alignment: Skyren have strong leanings towards both chaotic and neutral alignments though some have been known to have more dire leanings. They will almost always, however avoid lawful alignments as it is not in their nature to follow laws, or commandments. Above all Skyren crave attention and acceptance and will do almost anything to get them.
Society and Culture: Virtually independent from each other, younger Skyren place little value in family, preferring instead dalliances, and flirtation. Older more mature Skyren feel an interest in family and falling in love, but few if any act on these notions. Only in the last hundred years or so of their lives do Skyren begin taking an active part in the idea of starting true relationships. This isn't to say that Skyren don’t fall in love, or feel something for anyone, Indeed Skyren feel to much emotions, and can sometimes get caught up in chasing them. It is only when their biological clocks are active that the slow down and begin to think of stronger commitments. Marriage for Skyren is not a sacred thing, nor does it mean that the relationships are exclusive to one another. All of this said Skyren have three abiding faiths, that of the Maiden, whom they say is their creator, and greatest Goddess. With the precepts of Desire, and of Sayara their Mistress, and with the faith that all souls have a match. A Skyren who finds her soul mate, may choose to spend a single lifetime with her chosen. Death among the Skyren is the most social of all skyren beliefs, they gather together and throw a wake for the departed before throwing a celebration of the departed life that ends up being more of a revelry, or orgy than a celebration. If the Skyren had a daughter and was married, the daughter names herself the consort to the widower, and holds to his side for one full cycle of a Skyren year, an act that attempts to prevent deaths by heartbreak, and loss for the shorter lived races. Skyren incorporate many of their culture from that of those around them, they love the Dances and the music of the Ekeba, and the foods of the Elves, and the sports, and games of men.
Skyren reserve certain dances, and music for their Merskas or celebrations and it is considered a privilege to witness such events, though most men rarely remember them afterwards. They meet once a year for the Solask or great meet where they take lovers from their kind and make new acquaintances among the Matriarchy. Males are not an official part of these gatherings though they are present. At the end of the Solask, Skyren go on the Skyrane, or great hunt where they chase down and "kill" their prey usually lucky men invited for this purpose. Some of their dances, the Kabuthi in particular, a dance learned from the Ekeba has been banned in Grale for its indecent habit of losing the dancers clothes slowly before the audience until she is naked. While many Skyren still dance the Kabuthi in the privacy of nobles manors, or in underground parties, the Matriarch has recently begun to agree with this ruling after the death of Agatha Erano after a mob became over zealous for her affections after such a performance. Skyren are welcomed and even honored in the Silver City and one in particular Vattara El'thaen serves as the Queens Chancellor, and they hold many other positions of honor in Drakesbrige, Ilian, Tullis, and Grale. The Church in Basilica officially has banned Skyren from their city, while unofficially enjoying their company at the Operas, and Ballets of the Holy See.
Lands and Settlements: Skyren have no lands of their own preferring to live in the cities and kingdoms of others. They tend to wander from place to place, or to make homes in the ghettos of such races as the Halflings, or the Elves. Skyren are amongst the most artistic of architects and have helped in such plans as the Drakesbrige, and the roof-top gardens of Rhys.
Power Groups: Always changing from year to year, the leadership of the Skyren known as the Council of the Matriarchs, or as the Matriarchy is a semi nomadic council that moves about the Maidens hearth, coming together only at the Great Harvest, and at the Planting two of the Skyrens most religious holidays.
Focus: Skyren as a race have a strong leaning towards the Elements of Flame, and of Wind, with the advent of the elemental focus of desire many have turned in this direction. Water, and earth both also have some qualities that Skyren find desirable, though flame and wind are the most common choices among them.
Beliefs: Worship of the Maiden is common among both the female, and male Skyren, and more than a few have taken up the calling of the Aryandean Ordination. Dawar, has also become a large religious figure among the Skyren, and the Saviors Wife Valanna has inspired the Matriarchy to establish a holiday for its people known as Valansday, a day which they celebrate with love-making and revelry. A growing number of Skyren have taken with the Desire Cult of Sayara, others have taken up the worship of the Elemental Queen Flute, the lady of Wind, and still others worship Karesh, the Elemental Lord of Flame. The more Chaotic of the Skyren find the teachings of the Cult of Chaos to their liking, and a few have even taken to the worship of Thorne.
Language: Skyren speak a language derived from the proto-elven language known as Skrit, they also have perfected a language based off of the subtle hand gestures, body posture, facial tics, and expressions. Of all other races they can learn Elven, and Halfling are the two most chosen by the Skyren as languages they learn to speak. Skyren speak with precision, and with an utter lack of accent when talking in a different language.
Relations: Skyren get along with all races with the exception of most Kishane who find them distrustful, and unpleasant. While this isn't always the case Kishane tend to avoid Skyren, or if forced to work with them become gruff, or agitated.
Character Names: Skyren prefer names that are musical, or that pertain to things beautiful in nature. As such the names of flowers, and jewels are popular, as well as names regarding music such as Aria, or Rhapsody. Males tend towards names that deal with trees, or animals such as Ash, Rowan, Willow, Wolf, or Raven. They also tend towards the names of elves, and men.
