Races of Eberron Cover Art and Petition

Interesting.

I prefer the old cover, as it's more striking, but I think I know why it was changed:

1) To promote sales outside of the Eberron base. By this point, Eberron's been around long enough to have caused a bit of a divergence in audience - as with FR, there are those who don't buy Eberron stuff because they consider it sideways of the generic line. So fitting it in with the standard format will pull in a larger audience.

2) It's probably a step towards placing Eberron as the mainline D&D setting. Leak Eberron into core, and you start aclimating people to the idea of it being the core setting for the Player's Handbook 4.0 (whenever it appears).

Well, it's kind of what I'd do, anyway. :)

Considering just how many seconds I actually spend looking at the covers of most books, I really don't see what the big deal is.

The old cover image looks better IMO, and I'd rather have this looking nice next to my ECS than looking fine sitting next to my "Races of X" books. There are some ridiculous people over there...Keith Baker popped in and said that the contents were exactly what they'd asked for, and some of them say "screw that man, I'm not getting it with the standard Races cover."

Wankers.
