Headlong rush is similiar to the feat Power Lunge, but better in most cases. Power Lunge from sword and fist only provokes the AoO from the target, but Headlong Rush provokes from any of your target's allies standing around. Power Lunge also only doubles your str bonus to damage, which I think is a clunky mechanic. As for the feat being Orc only, i'm not too happy with racial feats (my human barbarian would love to replace his power lunge for that feat, and pick up the Might Makes Right). Overall, I like the feat, and will suggest it and the Preistige class to my new Half-Orc fighter player, because he plans on taking leadership. He probably won't be too keen on the feat, as he is an orc double axe fighter and needs all his feats.

Is that just my impression, or is the layout of the excerpt bad?

You first get to know the LA of the orc, then, after some text, the favored class, and then, after more text, the abilities of the orc. I would suspect that the presented text takes up at least two pages, making it neccessary to look at different pages when creating a character of that race.

While I don't mind the background information (how could I?), it seems counterproductive to mix it into statistical information this way. I'd rather have all statistical information written at the end of the background information.

Do my ramblings make any sense at all?

Otu,

You're just used to racial info and stat info being separate. I know I am.

As for me, I think I may yet pick up races of Faerun, as I think a friend of mine would love to play a gray orc and/or have a few of the racial feats.

...but how does gray orc balance with half-ogre at ECL +1?

If I've just started another avalanche of number crunching, I apologize in advance...
