Races of Neiyar: The Krakodons

Bardsandsages

First Post
The party cuts its way through the jungle undergrowth, and finally stumbles upon a moss covered stone about the height a full-grown man. The barely visible markings resemble some primitive form of Draconic, and after some study they determine the marker is some sort of boundary marker. As they continue, the thick mud beneath their feet begins to give way to an overgrown stone road. Soon they stand before two massive pillars, the elaborate carvings of reptilian humanoids battling demons still faintly visible beneath the green-black slime that covers the stone.

Out of the shadows of the jungle, a solitary figure emerges. It stands 7 ft tall, its muscular frame covered in deep green scales. Unarmored and unarmed, it folds its arms in from of its chest. Its black eyes slowly move from one party member to the next, stopping briefly on the sorcerer, the only female in the party. It’s dragon-life face twists into an obvious scowl.

“What is your business here, Krup’tha?” it asks in common. Its voice is surprisingly clear and articulate.

The party begins to offer an explanation. The creature raises a hand, signaling for them to be quiet.

“Which one is your champion?” it asks. The fighter steps forward. The creature studies him for a moment. “Only the strong may enter the ruins. Prove to me your strength, and I will let you pass. You will fight me, and if you win, you may enter the ruins. If you lose, you leave here and do not return.”

The fighter begins to lay his weapons down. “No, human. Keep your weapons and armor,” the creature snarls as it unfolds its arms. “You will need them.”

Noble warriors. Brutal Barbarians. Nature’s Champions. Misogynistic Ruffians. It can be said the Krakodons are all these things. Believing themselves to be the descendents of the great dragons that once roamed the jungle, the Krakodons fight to regain what they see as their birthright. Once the masters of a powerful empire, old hatreds and infighting led to the destruction of their beloved city of Dazu. Now living in a tribal lifestyle, the race has become a fractured society of warring clans, power-hungry factions, and uneasy alliances.
