Racial segregation in your world

Are the races of humanoids in your world segregated to certain parts of the world, or are they sprinkled throughout the lands?

I mean, in a given land (civilized or not), could one find an elf community, a dwarf clan, a goblin tribe, a orc tribe, and others? Or are the elves only found over there in that particular forest, the dwarves only over there in that particular mountain range, goblins only over there in that hill land, and the orcs only over there in that broken land?

Could a "Caves of Chaos" kind of thing be found in your world?

You have to explain the Caves of Chaos reference to me.

But, no, not really. I don't have elves or half-elves IMC, and there are larges groups of dwarves, halflings, orcs, ogres, half-orcs and gnomes integrated with human cities and natons.

The core races are generally part of the same empire but will have areas or silos of one having dominance or the others. The Monster Manual races are segregated to own lands.

depends.

some towns are mostly human. mostly orc. mostly hobbit. mostly ...

some locales too are... mostly elven woods. mostly dwarven mountains. mostly dragon caves...

but then there are cosmopolitian areas.

and then there are servants and masters.

and so it depends.

Many Greatwood communities will have a scattering of mixed races with human dominating.

Imperial areas will have lots of Dwarves which usually have a 'dwarf town' section of the city set aside for them, though there will be dwarf residences and businesses all over. Dwarves also have their mammoth mountain-spine cities that few humans ever get to see and then they don't get to see the tremendous miles-long cavern complexes where millions of dwarves live and work. Humans have the idea that dwarves are a dying race. They are very, very wrong.

There will also usually be a 'goblin hole' or ghetto set aside for the less savory of the non-human races, most of whom take menial work or are indentured servants. There will be the occassional 'towne goblin' that makes enough cash that he can't be ignored, and so will dress nicely and live uptown. Hobgoblins will serve as mercenary troops in their military and thus be sequestered with either the standing army or in whatever part of the city houses most of the mercenary troops.

In the Greatwood itself, elves prefer to keep to themselves.

Fairly segregated. Like in our own world, Europe and west Asia are mostly caucasian, east Asia are mostly oriental, equatorial and southern Africa are mostly black. Where these geographical regions come together is where the most integration occurs.

Depends on races and regions. Humans, of course, are nearly everywhere (with a few exceptions, though, for a refreshing change). Halflings are often somewhat segregated in ghettos, as people don't trust them, and they don't have a homeland of their own.
Rock Gnomes are well integrated in human countries, especially those that value scholarship and education. They've sought after as advisors, alchemists, and private tutors.
Other gnome races live secluded and are nearly unknown by the other races, rock gnomes serve as intermediaries between the rest of the gnomes race and the other races.
High Elves separate themselves from society, thinking they are above it. Like aristocrats, they don't mix with the "huddled masses". Wood elves live in the heart of forests, as their name implies, and are barbaric and unpredictable enough to be usually avoided by everyone else. Grey elves have a tiny tiny homeland, but don't care much about it. They love the sea far too much to stay on their land longer than necessary to replenish supplies anyway.
Dwarves stay in their own lands, except for mercenary companies and merchants, which are a common sight. Oh, and bartenders. Dwarves have an excellent reputation as good brewers and cooks, so you have a large number of taverns owned by dwarves.

Most large cities have at least a reasonably combined population, though some of them do have sections that are more or less a single race.

Major areas tend to favor one or two races over the others, but humans, half-orcs, and half-elves are everywhere. You'll find them in human lands, elven lands, dwarven lands, etc.

That being said, the reason IMC is that all of them have been united under the rule of a single kingdom for almost a millenium, and before that most of them owed allegience to one of two empires that the current kingdom conquered.

IMC many towns and cities are quite mixed, but as a general rule dwarves favour being in hills and mountains, elves are in the forests mainly, and the more mutually hostile races don't mix too much (orcs/goblins with dwarves for instance).

Like many here, the major cities have beings from various races. While there are elven, dwarven, and so on kingdoms where you're more likely to run into one specific race more often than not, major urban centers will sport a large variety in citizens. In the wilds, it depends. Some areas are very segregated while others (especially among slaver races) have varying degrees of integration.
