It has been a busy 5 years, but the fruits of Rakanar's labors are starting to take shape.
The imp kept in contact with the goblin tribe that was employed to kill off a helpless halfling, helping them build up their warriors and train their shamans. He emphasized that outright destroying the village would serve no purpose, that to have the best warriors, they must constantly hone their skills against an improving opponent. So instead of all-out assaults, the goblins began quick skirmishes every couple of months, striking and pulling back after inflicting a few casulties.
Back in the town, Rakanar used his magic from afar to give heart to the town council, strengthening their reslove not to be defeated. A militia was raised and trained diligently to repel the goblins, and the town's population began to rise when refugees from outlying farms and small hamlets began arriving. The beginnings of Rakanar's plans began to take hold.
Of more imediate concern was Violet and her now 4 year old son. She was a good an attentive parent, bringing up a well behaved and strong boy. At her guardian angel's insistance, she began to learn herbal medicine, and became a healer of sorts for the town, caring for the aches and pains of the small battles. It was one of those battles which would change her family forever.
After the latest and most brutal attack by the goblins, Violet was needed to tend for the injured, leaving her son sleeping peacefully in his bed. Rakanar appeared to him, disguised as a small angel, and told him he was a friend. He led the boy out of the hut and into a forest a few short miles away. There they came upon a small altar to Asmodeus. There he revealed his true form to the boy, terrifying him to his soul. The boy lost control of his will, bu\oth from fear and from the power of Rakanar's suggestion, and climbed upon the altar. With the mon ecliped by a growing storm, the imp addresed the devil Asmodeus, giving him the soul of this halfling boy in exchange for the promise of more power to come. As lightning flashed, Rakanar's barbed tail plunged through the halfling's chest, stopping his heart and sending his soul to the arms of evil.
Hours after midnight, Violet returned to her hut, and checked on her precious boy, finding him safe and sound in his bed. She retired to her own bed, leaving him to sleep, and not seeing the smile that crossed his face.
