Rakshasas and their magic immunity

The Rakshasa spell immunity says it is immune 8th or lower level spells as if the caster failed to overcome the SR.

Now the DMG states that SR never interference with the casters own spells. So, can Rakshasas cast spells on itself, because magic immunity works like SR, or is it different so that no spell with SR can affect them even if they cast it themselves?

Go with the DMG. The rakshasa can cast spells on itself.
