Random questions :)

Oh, nod, sorry Hyp. It was indeed a touch, not ranged touch. He was using it to heal someone through.

Anyway, I'm back home and got the other question I was missing...

3. You can make a spellbook fireproof/waterproof. What is the price to do so? I see mentions of it in DMG or PHB, forget which, but never saw an actual price on how to do it.

It's mentioned in the Complete Arcane. Neat stuff, but I don't remember the numbers off hand.

Isn't there now a feat that allows someone who wouldn't normally acquire a familiar get one? I could have sworn I read it somewhere... CA maybe? Or maybe CAdv... I'll hafta look it up tomorrow.

There is also Obtain Familiar from Complete Arcane which allows any arcane spellcaster to obtain a familiar.

The way we do is based on the DC in the book. I think it's DC = 10 + HD of the creature. If you make the check, you can ask one question. For each 5 points by which you beat the DC, ask another question.

And, what's neat about this is the fact that if you make a knowledge roll and you get (let's say) a 24, and the DM doesn't let you ask any questions, you already have one vital piece of information... ;)

but the CHARACTERS aren't going to know things like HD...all they will know is the thing is weak or powerful...easy or hard to kill...breathes fire or likes to eat barbequeued elf ribs on saturday.

Heh. But, then again, you probably had an inkling about that in the first place. :p

No, that's why the player asks his question, rolls, anounces his total, and the GM may or may not answer it.

The characters may not be able to ask metagame questions like "How many HD does it have...." but they could ask if say "Do encounter accountings with said monster say that the Sleep spell has ever been effective putting them to sleep..." basically narrowing down the number of HD... :]
