Ranger Animal Companions in Martial Power

Included in WotC's Gen Con: DDM report is this little gem:

Andy Collins pointed out here that by the time this mini releases, you'll be able to use the upcoming Martial Power sourcebook for rules on ranger animal companions, like Farris' raptor.

I think they take pleasure in dropping little tidbits in seemingly unrelated places to see who will notice ...

They probably know that some of us love uncovering tidbits and whatever info we can, then of course debating about it.

I am hoping there is good rules when it comes to the Animal Companion for urban-campaigns. Come on bulldogs sleeping on the feet of a street ranger just ready to bite the kneecaps of anyone who threatens him

My thoughts exactly.

I am hoping there is good rules when it comes to the Animal Companion for urban-campaigns. Come on bulldogs sleeping on the feet of a street ranger just ready to bite the kneecaps of anyone who threatens him

I wouldn't be surprised if they use the minion rules or are at least similar to minions.

I hope the Animal Companions advance with your character in a way that doesn't mean they'll die pretty much instantly if an enemy gets a hold on them. Maybe it's because I'm an animal person, but I never liked going through a dozen Animal Companions by level ten, or "upgrading" to something "better" like I was trading in a car. It kind of steps on my enjoyment of things a bit. Ah well, we shall see.

I agree always preferred the idea of having one animal with you the whole time. So when your character is old and finished with questing his animal will still be by his feet, his own battle scars as visible as your own.

Hmm... I wonder if Warlord Powers will work with Animal Companions? Could be a nice way to make your Ranger even more Animal Companion oriented, to multiclass with Warlord.

In between this, and the mention in the other GenCon Report of a two-weapon fighting tree for fighters in Martial Power, I am currently looking for a facility that will put me in suspended animation until October so that I don't have to wait anymore. Need my delicious splatbooks!
