Just a quick question

There is no reason why you cant use this power with a thrown dagger and throw it twice on your turn

ie. the same magic dagger ?

The general consensus is that a magic dagger (or other thrown magic weapon) can be used to deliver multiple attacks as part of a single action. I believe that is also the position of WotC CS. There may also be a FAQ entry on that.

There is a bit more speculation when it comes to non-magical daggers. Obviously you would need enough ammo to make the required attacks (1 dagger per target) but it is unclear if you would need Quick Draw as well if you have more than 2 targets, or if you can draw the additional daggers as part of the power, or if you can hold several daggers in hand at once for purposes of this type of attack. I believe the common conclusion is that drawing additional ammo is considered part of using the power. There may also be some CS responses on that as well, or a FAQ entry, not sure.

As a side note, the entire REASON for the 'magic weapons return' rule was to make thrown weapons a viable power delivery mechanism. Otherwise bows, etc are simply vastly superior for the purpose and builds relying on thrown weapons really aren't viable. A character relying on thrown weapon power delivery in particular would be well advised to take the Quick Draw feat however, since that will certainly shore up your case for what you want to do quite a bit, and it isn't a bad feat to have in and of itself.

Why? Because you're a half-elf Brutal Scoundrel Rogue who took Twin Strike as his Dilettante power and then took Versatile Master to use it as an at-will (and Distant Advantage), so now you basically have an at-will which reads dex vs ac, 1[w]+str, 2 attacks, and apply sneak attack damage if you hit with at least one, as long as your allies are flanking the target.

In case you can't figure it out, that's REALLY good. :) On the other hand, the Brutal Rogue could just close to melee and use a double sword. :)

If you throw a magic dagger, one is enough for both attacks. If you want to get both attacks in melee, you need two daggers.

I think this rule is one of the worst in 4e. While the game isn't supposed to simulate realism, I just can't handle one magic dagger being thrown caught and thrown again all in one power. It's even worst with the blast power where you can actually attack up to 9 foes with one dagger. I make my players have a dagger for each target magical or not.

The reason why the implemented this rule is so someone that uses daggers won't have to invest in multiple magic weapons while someone that uses a bow does not. As a GM, I'll make sure the rogue gets more magical daggers if he likes to throw them around like rice at a wedding.

I think this is a flavor issue more than a mechanical one. It's plausible enough to say that a thrown weapon ricochets in flight from one target to another, a la Captain America's shield or Xena and her chakram, etc. Alternately, you could say that the weapon instantly teleports to the thrower's hand on impact, ready for another throw (I think the text just says the item 'returns' to the player, not necessarily how.)

Who says it has to be caught in the middle? Think ricochet.
