Ranger with Spider Companion -- can you add poison?

I understand why the basic spider animal companion doesn't have poison (to balance it with the other critters). But I was suprised to see a feat to make Boar animal companions tougher but nothing to add poison to spiders.

Or did I miss something??

I don't recall seeing such a feat. Its possible there is one though since the number of 4e feats is pretty huge now.

Seems to me it wouldn't be all that hard to come up with a reasonably balanced feat to do what you want. So far I think Thundertusk Companion is the only feat that boosts one specific type of companion. I'm guessing MP2 may throw in a few more of these and maybe other options for beasts.

Thanks!

A custom feat looks like the only option. I'd been reluctant to ask as house rules had not been kind to our 3.5 games . . . 'course, another reason to look forward to MP2!

The game has poison - use them.

That is, 1) buy a poison 2) apply it not to your weapon but to your spider (which I would allow as DM) 3) watch your spider make a poisoned attack

You would probably get away with the spider continously reapplying a new dose IMC - as long as you pay the bill: poison are consumables and thus a money drain (if you like your poisons to be effective against level-appropriate foes).

Take Poisoner multiclass and the Poisoner encounter swap. Use it with the beast attack at-will. Boom! Poison bite. It's in the character builder.
