Rant about (lack of) info in new 3.5 conversion guide

Here's to hoping the SRD is more complete, although I very much doubt it.

Of course the 3.5 SRD is going to be complete. It is the basis of the entire OGL.

The 3.5 will have every single rule change [minus the stuff that wasn't in the 3.0 SRD, including experience and IP critters like the mind flayers].

Before the books were released, there were already people at work pointing out each tiny rule change. Once the 3.5 is released [I know, I know, those bastards lied, they're not giving away the free stuff as fast as you'd like], it will probably be only a matter of days before someone has produced a document telling you exactly which words to cross out in your old PHB and how to make the bard iconic look like a gnome.

"I very much doubt it." Crom help me...

If this is the best information, then I guess my group will be sticking to 3.0, as this product update seems little more than an advertisement for the 3.5 books. Maybe the guys in my group without Players' Handbooks can find some 3.0 ones at discount prices.

Thanks Wizards!

Whether you and your group end up buying the 3.5 books or not, the fact that the update guide ultimately did help you to make a decision (in this case: NOT to buy the 3.5 books) means that it was more useful to you than you thought.

Something to ponder during your "rolleyes".

I started compiling a list of changes to spells last night. I made it through the Bigby's before going to bed at 4am. Not counting addition/removals to spell lists, well over half of all those spells had significant changes to them. :) I hope to have the list completed sometime next month at this rate.

I think you missed my point. If there was/will be a good update document for those of us who do have the 3.0 books, then half the group would go out and buy the 3.5 books and those of us who have the 3.0 books could use the update document(s). But now, since those of us who have the 3.0 books won't be able to convert easily, the other fellas will go out and buy used 3.0 books. So Wizards' policy -- at least from our perspective -- hurts us (because now we're not going to be up-to-date with new stuff) and them (because while they would have gotten some revenue from half of us buying 3.5, now they'll get nothing.

In fact, this whole 3.5 thing is forcing me to seriously consider moving to another company/system altogether... I always loved Fantasy HERO...

That's just it. Those of you with 3.0 can download the SRD and use it. The new half can go and buy 3.5 and everyone will be happy. The SRD will be the complete rules for 3.5 Just give them a week or so to get it updated and put on thier site.

Good man.

Maybe you should look into getting some help from others on the boards? There are probably others working on the same project.

I saw preview scans of it at http://www.gamingreport.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=NPNews&file=index it said "conversion guide" insted of accessory(SP) guide. I don't remember where it was, but one of the first statments from WOTC about 3.5 was something like "we will be updating the SRD about the same time 3.5 is in stores. We will also be putting out a conversion guide online and in stores, this is all you will need to convert your 3rd ed. characters to 3.5 if you don't want/ need to pick up the new core books".

Piratecat, sorry if you are upset with me. But I have had people/ companies not follow though with promises they made, and I have a hard time trusting people. When I see a company likw WOTC get away with it as much as they do, I get upset and try to call them on it, it would be one thing if they admit they were wrong or say "oop's, we screwed up", but they don't, they always have some excuse. There is no accountabillity.

This looks to be a very handy guide in the general listing of changes and additions to the core books and what is changing in the other D&D rule books as well. We scanned a few important excerpts for review. A great guide for someone that doesn’t plan on buying the new books.
