[Rant] Oh. My. God. He said no!

I do certainly hope the problem player's name isn't really "Bob", 'cause he sounds like a blight on all of us Bobs. :D

Hehe... no, it's not really Bob, but the player in question might browse these boards and I don't want him to immediatly recognize this post is about him. ;)

Anyway, for anyone who's interested, the situation has been resolved. I talked with both of the other players who are his close friends and they both agreed that they didn't have any fun that night thanks to his antics either, so if he has to be kicked out than so-be-it. I also talked to him and informed him that there's no point in getting together every week if he's only going to act immature and prevent everyone from having a good time. Bottom line: I didn't boot him, but he's on very thin ice right now and he knows it. If he does anything remotely similiar to stopping the entire game because of a petty dispute again he'll be leaving and the game will go on without him.

Thanks again for all of the good advice and words of encouragement. :)

The reactions were not that much different from some of the suggestions I have read on this board on how to deal with Bob.

It is always a matter of perspective, which is why it is so important to discuss beforehand what kind of game it is going to be. I would be pretty miffed as well - and I was miffed - when I was expecting an adventure set in a city, dealing with the society of that city and I got a dungeon crawl without any connection to the city, where the whole party background gets ignored.

VERY valid point. An up front discussion is a good way of making sure both sides of the DM Screen know what the other expects out of the game. Bob's issues weren't like this objection unfortunately. The whole metagaming aspect is pretty funny if you ask me.. I mean a 20th level cleric who communes regularly with his/her god doesn't run around all willy nilly thinking "there's NO WAY my god would ever let me die." It's pretty funny for players to assume this.

After reading all the posts, including my own, distilling all the information and even doing some outside research I can only come to one conclusion:

Fourecks is right, Blazing Saddles is a great movie. It gets funnier every time I watch it. It has one of the best throw away lines I have ever heard:

"They lose me right after the bunker scene."

That one kills me every time.

Also the classic... "You will be merely risking your lives, while I shall be risking a possible Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor!"

and the ridiculously subtle, "Thanks, Van."

And I still advocate Bob's butt becoming aquainted with shoe leather. Or at least a firm admonition to not meta-game nor to act so immaturely if he wishes to continue playing in a game you're DMing. Seriously, is there anyone on these boards who is a DM that would put up with that? I can't imagine why unless Bob had video of you that you wouldn't want Eric's Gramma seeing....
