[rant] Stupid players who act without thinking

First Post
So this player in my group plays a paladin. He has this great sword (frost brand). He's kinda fallen out of being a paladin, and is only really sticking with it cuz he has this cool sword. (I don't agree with this, but it's besides the point.)

I play a wizard. I came across these bracelets of strength. I loan them to the paladin, because he'll use them better than I could.

Said paladin runs across a bullette (sp?). After we slay it, he sticks his sword into its gut, and finds out the acidic properties of it's stomach. (Or so our DM said -- must still verify.) Anyway, the sword is ruined. Paladin kills himself, and falls into the stomach acids, hence everything of his is ruined. Along with my bracelets of strength. Bastard.

Sorry, had to get it off my chest.

Oh that tears it. No more Doritos for the player of dead not ex paladin! The dread Harlock has spoken and so it shall be. Seriously, tell the player he is a putz and that if he wants to play a putz to do it somewhere else. Or if you like the guy just tell him he's a putz and never loan him anything again. Most importantly, call him a putz. You'll feel better for it.

I may be wrong, but I believe that enchanted weapons could only be destroyed by a weapon of equal or greater power, unless you roll a 1 on certain saving throws; in which case there is a chance of one of your items will be damaged or destroyed.

I know from bitter experience that this could well be a no-win situation.

I hope things do work out for you and your game.

I hope things somehow work out for that paladin player.

In many ways, I'd be content with losing the bracers. If thats what you have to sacrifice to get rid of a dumb character played by a dumb player. Just make sure they make a better character next time, one which they might stick with for a reason other than his sword!

I would imagine falling into the acidic stomach of a creature while dead is the equivalent of rolling a one...

When I first saw the title to this thread I thought - "Oh boy, what minor little thing has gotten all blown out of proportion this time?"

But you know what? You are absolutely right adndgamer - that was a stupid and selfish thing for that player to have his character do. Not to mention about as unrealistic as hell. If he was that upset about losing his sword why not just retire the character and make up a new one? What a jerk.

I would personally use much stronger language than putz - but I can be an angry and vidictive sort.....

Since he some what meta gamed the fact he didn't want his character around, if he couldn't have a cool frostbrand sword, I suggest equal retaliation.

The art of meta Gaming transcends the limmitations of single characters. It allows you to attack the player the vry source. Melt his new character with Acid. :D

But if you wanna be civil and not sink to his level, ask the DM to make an exception and let you maybe repair the Bracers? The sword could just as easily have been repaired by the paladin.
