[rant] Stupid players who act without thinking

I just want to know how strong that acid is, and how long the sword was in there. It would have to do in excess of 25 damage per round to do any damage. It sounds to me like the DM screwed the player on a whim, and the player acted equally immaturely. I'd make them fight to the death for my amusement, it's a better use for their lives.

I agree. I don't even see the big problem of a paladin with a frostbrand sword. Even if it was a problem, the DM gave it to him, somehow.

Granted, the player was probably an immature jerk. But it could be that the DM was an immature jerk as well. That does happen too, you know. ;)

Thanks for the replies everybody. :)

I'm gonna see if I can't talk with the DM about the player's actions, as they weren't in-character, and he screwed me over in the process. Perhaps ask if we could have had a chance to grab him before he fell into the stomach acids. I was also thinking of killing the player next time he comes in, to exact my revenge, but am undecided on that point at this moment.

And might I enlist somebody's help? Somebody ran off with my MM last session, otherwise I'd look it up myself. The monster we fought was a Bulette. I wanted to check and see if the eq should have gotten a saving throw or whatnot.

Heh. On a sidenote, the DM was just about to tell us that the strong acids in the beasts stomach had eaten through the now-dead beast's skin and spilled out onto the floor when the paladin cut the DM off and stuck his sword in. :)

I'm going to be the first to say "Huh?!?" to your stating that a Bullette's stomach acid 'ate' a Frostbrand, at least a +2 total-bonus-equivilent weapon. I just peeked at the MM entry and don't see any mention of acids at all. It's got to be something the DM's pulling, hopefully as some sort of Plot Device. If not it may be his attempt to 'sneakily' remove an overly-powerfull weapon and/or bracers from the group.

What level is your character, and the group over-all? Do you have any items that would obviously be considered more powerfull than the destroyed items you've already mentioned?

Well, it's not so much putzy players not thinking ahead as one player not wanting to play the game like the other people want to play, the DM included.

Personally, anybody that pulls that is probably out of my game. Not blowhard "You're OUTTA HERE" but, really, if his idea of the game isn't going to match the rest of us at the table, then, y'know ... why have him ruining the game for everybody else?

I had a friend of mine that pulled the same sort of thing.

It's a sign of tiring of the game, of general immaturity, and not really anything remotely like "lack of forethought". That's the least of the problems.

Mmf. I hate playing with people like that. It'd be so much easier to just say: "Guys, I'm not into this. I'm going to go catch some Enterprise reruns on UPN and ya'll call me if you want to do something else."

Thanks for checking that out. The 2nd ed manual mentions it. And the DM pointed it out in the 3e MM, but I'll have to wait for the actual text.

No, it wasn't really overpowering. We're 8th level. No other powerful magic weapons.

I think I'll talk to my DM, as I'm normally DM, but he's taking over (and doing a damned fine job so far) for now.

Ah well, it makes it more interesting :) I'm still pissed at the dumb player though.
