Rapid Summoning and duration

I think readying to cast summon monster I versus a charging barbarian or an enemy spellcaster is a great use of the first level spell. Giving a companion rogue the opportunity for +2 attack and +1d6 damage is about a 1st-level spells (1d6 damage plus the aid another action from a distance).

Well to do that you need to have the rapid summoning ability. Otherwise you could never ready a summon monster due to it's 1 round casting time.

Of course. Isn't this the Rapid Summoning thread? Am I going to suggest readying summon monster without Rapid Summoning (or Rapid Spell)?

It is, but it is now tangenting off into the value of a summon monster spell. An ability that can reduce casting times can easily make a huge differences in the value of a spell. Thus the ability should not be factored in when determining the value of a spell.

Also it looked like someone could interpret your post to think that anyone could ready a summon monster spell.
