Unless it is an old out of print book, you don't even have to do that. Just print the pdf directly from what ever publishing tool is being used.

Wow. 50 bucks for a .pdf file. That is insane.

Aren't the .pdf copies nearly all profit? Sure there is the cost of OCR'ing the print files, then the cut that the electronic distributors get, but the margin has to be much better since most of your costs of the print version don't exist in the .pdf version. And I assume that your costing of the print version was setup to recoup your investment in creating the product.

In any event, I'd like to give you some money, but not that much.

Personally, I'd say it depends on the product. If a product is released solely as a PDF, the cost is pretty high. You have to pay the authors, artists, editors, etc.. solely out of the PDF sales. In the case of a book that is released as both PDF and print, it's a little muddier. I'd say some of the costs I mentioned still apply, though. It's not really pure profit, the work of everyone involved still factors, but it does get divided between every copy sold, including print and PDF.

With RARe, however, part of the price of the print product is related to the fact that it's a limited release, with an implied "promise" that there will be no reprint. While I can easily see how that would affect the price of the Print copy (it becomes a collector item), that doesn't apply to PDF copies. Heck, I can legally double my number of copies on my own computer, and there is really no resale value, so obviously there is no collector factor for the PDF. Also, PDF copies do not affect the collectability of the print version.

Apparently NG disagrees.

That they do, and they are free to price their products in consequence.

I sorta assume that my (and everyone else's) posts assume a IMHO disclaimer.

Edit: of course, some things are less subjects to opinions than others. I'd say that is one, and would be happy to explain why, but I've done so already, in this very thread, and it's never been challenged directly.

I sir, do not have a humble opinion. Indeed my opinion is quite self confident, and has been known to sneak off to the pubs for a pint when I am not around.
