Rate DOOM: The movie

My wife (a big fan of "The Rock") took me to see this today. It was okay - nothing spectacular, but entertaining. I haven't seen a "Rock" movie yet that I absolutely hated. (But it did seem a bit weird to me seeing

"The Rock" dropping the "F-bomb" so often in the movie - he's usually such a nice guy! Likewise, having him be the bad guy was a bit of a downer for me, since I like him better as the hero.

I would rather re-watch House of the Dead than Doom. HotD was mind-bogglingly bad (and therefore compelling in some sick fashion). Doom was just dull.

I gave it a '5'.

DOOM is about fighting demons on mars. Nothing else.

I'll unfortunately have to pass. Probably see it in a few years.

It's very loosely based on the current DOOM 3 game, with the supernatural element stripped out and replaced by "ancient martian super science".

I think a total of 3 monsters from the game are in the movie (zombies, "demon"-creature", and a "demon-bulldog" creature), but most of the action is a standard "marine bug hunt" mixed with survival horror, and ending with an over the top martial arts confrontation.

I give it a 6. A nice mindless way to while away the afternoon. Just got to a matinee.

I had a good time, but I'm not sure how much of that should be attributed to seeing it on an IMAX screen. Gave it a 6 conservatively.

I saw this movie over the weekend. I was entertained. I am not a grognard, so the lack of a literal Hell didn't bother me.
