8....Awsome movie. One of the best adaptions of a comic ever done. I could have done without the kissie-kiss ending.

Del Toro said in an interview that there was about 20 mins. cut out of the movie. It'll be in the DVD coming out around the end of the year.

The last 45 minutes were very predictable, I don't really see what adding more could do to help. I thought it was an OK movie, competently executed, but there was basically no tension at the end. So thumbs up for the acting, thumbs up for the effects, thumbs in the middle for the action, and thumbs down for the writing/plot.

Let's put predictability aside, since that really is a seperate problem with the story. It doesn't have anything to do with how long or short a movie runs.

Otherwise, your second sentence sums up exactly why it needed more - no tension. The bad guys were ultimately two-dimensional at best. The allies were mostly two-dimensional at best. The only characters that had some semblence of depth were Hellboy and Liz... and even that was fleeting at best. In order to have credible tension you need to have three-dimensional characters. I felt the movie only dragged in a couple of parts, so the obvious thing, to me anyway, it to pare those parts down and add some minutes that make the characters a bit more human.

But, I'm not a screenwriter, so I could be and probably am completely off my rocker.

7 for me, better than average, good acting for the most part, story fair, the villians were okay, clock-work nazi interesting. special effect very good.

When I say I wish it had been longer, I'm not asking for more tension-less fight scenes. I wanted more time spent on the creepy stuff -- to give it a chance to actually BE creepy.

The image of the GI's clustered in front of the crucifix is a genuinely creepy image, but it gets yanked away before we even realize what we're seeing. When the wind-up Nazi goes beserk, people ought to be freaking out, but we don't get a chance to see it cause we got to zip along to the next bit right away. When Rasputin is calling up the Lords of Chaos or whatever, we should be building up horror in our heads and going, "Oh, this is going to be bad," but then there's explosions and all sorts of stuff and we don't have time to wonder what's going to happen.

And that's just in the first scene.

Half of being scared is being DENIED information. It's when you don't know what's happening that you get really freaked. Nothing is as scary as an unopened door and I think Hellboy could have used a few long stares at unopened doors.

I loved it. It was more faithful to the original source material than I expected, and I just about loved every bit of it. Good special effects, great acting, a solid plot and lots of fun to be had. Barsoomcore may have not liked the cinematography, but I thought it was quite good...particularly with several shots, such as Hellboy at the sanitarium or when he was walking through the graveyard under snow. I just loved some of the visuals. Perlman nailed the role perfectly, and John Hurt was excellent. I liked how Abe Sapien was handled in particular, and his banter with Hellboy was some of my favorite in the film.

I gave it a 10, pure and simple.

Yes, it does. The complete and utter lack of suspense is a major contributing factor to what makes this movie feel too long. It's hard to see how adding more of the same could improve it. If you want to correct the problems with plausibility and tension (or more specifically, the lack of both), the end of the movie is very much the wrong place to do so.

To be clear, I think the shots we got were GREAT. My complaint was that I didn't get the few shots that I thought would really have made the movie into a work of art.
