Is it just me (and Crothian)? I'm getting tired of seeing all these minis with ridiculously oversized weapons (Wild Elf Raider the case in point).

You know what they say about the size of a warrior's weapons! :D

Cheers!

6 of 8, the two minis I want the most from this set are in that pack!

Which were those?

(The mini I wanted most was the Mounted Paladin, which I was lucky enough to get in my first lot of packs).

Incidentally, I was happy to see all 8 figures - either for RPG or skirmish reasons. I like the Wild Elf Raider the least, but generic humanoid enemy minis aren't useless by a long shot.

I've found myself using a *lot* of humans through LG play.

Cheers!

I gave it a 6, but then realized your poll should be skewed up to a 9. The reason for the bonus point: no wrackspawn!

I voted 3 but that was generous.

Steel Predator - rare; LE; large outsider; Fiend Folio

No. As with most rares, it's nicely sculpted and painted. Only it's a kind of monster I would not have used for in my games, too sci-fi for my tastes.

MerricB said:
Justice Archon - uncommon; LG; outsider; New creature

No. I just don't like this sculpt at all, the pose, the split sword and the wings.

MerricB said:
Large Air Elemental - uncommon; N; large elemental; Monster Manual

Yes. This is the only one which I like quite much. If it had some color shading it would be better, and with a sort of transparency it'd be fantastic, but it still looks very good to me.

Village Priest - uncommon; LG; humanoid (human); PHB

No. Looks awful to me.

MerricB said:
Abyssal Skulker - common; CE; small outsider; Monster Manual II

No. Don't like this at all either, definitely better than the two humans in the booster, but OTOH I am not a fan of ugly-looking monsters, like this with a vertical mouth.

MerricB said:
Wild Elf Raider - common; CG; humanoid (elf); PHB+MM

No. Worse than the priest.

MerricB said:
Skeletal Archer - common; CE; undead; Monster Manual

Yes. This looks great in the picture, and there's always room for skeletons!

MerricB said:
Direguard - common; LE; undead; Lost Empires of Faerun

Yes, but not sure. It looks a bit... flattened.

A perfect pick for me would be:
R - Trumpet Archon or Ogre Mage or Hezrou
UL - Feral Minotaur
U - Imp
U - Dwarf wizard
C - Skeletal Archer
C - Skeletal Archer
C - Skeletal Archer
C - Skeletal Archer

Yes I know that you can't get 2 of a kind :) But Angelfire doesn't have other decent commons, except maybe the Hobgoblin Impaler. Too many good rares - NOT all - and too poor other figures as usual.

I said 5. Nice Haul, Merric! I haven't been so lucky with the Angelfire set yet although I did really well with the Deathknell set.

Wow. Of all the sets Angelfire has had the best ratio of useful, well painted/scuplted commons of any. The Direguard is excellent (it isn't flat in real life), Dwarf Mercenary & Raider, Caravan Guard, SKeletal Archer, the Kobold, Hobgoblin Impaler. These are excellent commons not only due to paint quality but they are things that most DMs are going to want in abundance.

I went with 5. I don't really like the wild elf and I have tons of the village priest and the skulker. The rest are easily useful to me.

All of my comments are based on the notion of using the pieces pretty much as-in, in other words representing the thing they are supposed to be, rather than using them as a substitute for another type of being.

I voted 3, but actually it is more like 2 + 2 halves.

The Village Priest and the Skeleton Archer I could easily and readily use at any time. The Wild Elf Raider and the Large Air Elemental I might have some use for, depending on the situation. The others? Useless. Don't use such creatures now and cannot imagine a situation where I ever would.

Afterthought Note: These decisions are based soley on their descriptions, not on their casting. I did not look at the pictures associated with these, so I might remove a vote if the figure looks particularly funky.

Gave it a 6. The steel predator and abyssal skulker are the only 2 that I really wouldn't be able to find a use for (don't have the books). I could sub the archon as any similar type of celestial, not familiar with the direguard, but I could use it for some sort of undead. The priest, elf, elemental, and skeleton are all fairly basic stuff I'd get multiple uses out of.

Heh... I already got the mounted paladin too, also in my first pack. ;)

I really want the elemental and the steel predator (even though I've yet to use a SP in game, I totally dig 'em based on Wulf's story hour, and aspire to use them sometime!).
