I'm decently geeky. My hygiene is good, I avoid black T-shirts and discussing my hobbies at all time, but I do approach them with a frenzied intensity.

I rate myself a 2.

Demiurge out.

Crap,

They've added beard to the gamer geek profile? And here I am experimenting with one for the first time. Damn. And I just bought a really nice black t-shirt at Old Navy too. Does it count if it doesn't have a gamer or computer slogan on it? (It's a really nice shirt)

At least I smell good as I'm a marketer's example that free samples make for life long customers. Even if the "Axe Effect" doesn't exactly work. (Although a lot more women seem to smile at me lately).

OK, what if your girlfriend moonlights as a lingerie model? Does that at least cancel out the beard? (Although she's a web programmer by day, crap.)

OK I guess I'm a Gamer Geek. But if you try to tell me about your character I will hurt you. :)

Once upon a time, when I worked retail at Wizards, we called typical gamers FGWBs (fat guys with beards). When one walked into the store, someone would rush over to the gaming section to meet him with a smile and ask if there was anything we could help him with. Seems sort of snobby and rude now, but at the time, those guys were almost always headed directly to the gaming books...

Myself - I don't think I look very geeky. But - I don't think the physical stereotype exists as strongly for woman as for men... I'm tall and blond with a love of pink so deep it has taken over my wardrobe. However, that said, I do own a pink shirt with Princess Leia on it and a d20 necklace (thanks Crystal Caste!). So - though I don't fit the typical female gamer picture (if there is one at all, I guess) - I do tend to mark myself so that any other nerds can spot me in a crowd. :)

I belive that i only qualify as a geek in that i play/love D&D. I have many freinds, don't have a girlfreind but that only because I cant choose and have a reputation as a "player". I am a fastiduious hygenist. I wear mainstream clothes, polos, khakis, t-shirts. I party, and do very well in school. Only one of my freind's knwos about my hidden love, and he owuld liek to play but won't because of the stigma. Very sad.

Well, if the stereotypical gamer geek is male, under 30, bearded, wears lots of black t-shirts, plays Evercrack obsessively and lives in his parents' basement, then I'm a long way away. Because I'm a woman, 45, don't like black t-shirts generally, have never played an online game, and have a professional job and my own house. But I know all the gamer jargon, spend a lot of time working on characters or campaigns, game every week, have seen all the "classic" gamer movies, and spend way too much time on this forum.

:D

:p You qualify. The woman part might be a stretch, but I've got 5 females in my groups (out of 35 total players). The stereotype should change because we all got older...

I think that it could now read "Successful person who spends an abnormal amount of time on gaming, and tends to bring personalities to the dinner table. If they own a house it must have a dedicated gaming room, and their black concert shirts are still stored away next to their character costumes. This person spends large amounts of time on Internet forums dedicated to gaming, often on several at once."

I really only keep the beard and the ponytail because my wife likes them. And the ponytail is currently growing back after shaving my head bald as a practical joke on... Some of my players.

Okay going from what others have posted it seems that the gamer geek stereotype is
sloppy, unwashed,obsessive,skinny/fat guy, with poor social skills, male,
under 30, bearded who wears lots of black t-shirts, plays Evercrack obsessively,
lives in his parents' basement, and has never had a girlfriend

OKAY
sloppy - well yes
unwashed - never
obsessive - I spend most of my time at Enworld so yes
skinny/fat guy - overwieght (but will change that soon),
poor social skills - my job is Community relations its all about my Cha 18!
male - yes
under 30 - no (but I think this demographic may have shifted to 25 - 35 (thus yes))
bearded - no although sometimes unshaven
wears lots of black t-shirts - no
plays Evercrack obsessively - whats evercrack?
lives in his parents' basement - no
never had a girlfriend - I am happily married

oh and I'm non-white which helps disguise the geekiness even though there are geeks in every ethnic group:)

Gave myself a 2, but that may be me being a little extra tough on myself.

I'm overweight, I have a goatee (which hides my lack of chin), and I'm a roleplayer.

On the other hand, I'm big into sports, watching and playing. I'm married to a great looking gal who teases me about the roleplaying (She always asks if I will be dressing like Boba Fett), I work in a high profile sales and marketing setting, I hide the fact that I game to the general public, I wear nice clothes, I wash every day and I don't watch the Sci Fi Channel.
