Lessee...

Got a beard? Check.
Overweight? Check.
Live with parents? Nope - job, money, owned home, two cars, etc.
Married? - Yep, awesome woman, to boot. I put myself as a "2", and my wife used to put me at a "4"... until she went to Gencon with me years ago.

What I am... Is a grown-up geek. :) In high school, I was the kid who kept to himself and looked like a slightly pudgy Steve Urkel. In adulthood, I grew up, dress better, but still play the occasional weeknight computer game and the weekly game session, and my jobs in the past forced me to break my shyness.

My co-workers know I play D&D, and like fantasy and sci-fi, but think it's one of those "cerebral" things that computer techs do. :)

I gave myself a 2.

sloppy - Generally not. I do need to shave twice a day, which means I tend to look patchy after about 12 in the day.
Unwashed - Never.
obsessive - Quite possibly. I spend my extra money on D+D books and supplements, though I spend more time than I'd like on things like university. I'm a card carrying member of two re-enactment groups (And likewise poke people with rapiers!) and an honorary member of another due to the fact of nothing more than they all like me.
skinny/fat guy - Slightly overweight, due to mixture of winter/university exam/assignments, own laziness.
poor social skills - No. I tend to have decent social skills, simply through honesty and geniality. Friends are easy to make.
male - yes
under 30 - Yep, by a way. But I plan to be gaming when I'm old and tottering; not like I could do much else.
bearded - No, though I attempted and failed a goatee once.
wears lots of black t-shirts - I have few black shirts other than button-down and none with fantasy stuff on them.
plays Evercrack obsessively - Nope. I'd probably either hate them or get obsessed, so I stay way.
lives in his parents' basement - Parents garage, actually. Student teacher 3/Bartender3 doesn't earn big money.
doesn't have a job - Bartender. Farm Laborer. Dish Pig. I've never not had a job.
never had a girlfriend - Got a girlfriend of several years.
enjoys geeky hobbies apart form gaming - I enjoy history of almost all brands, canon literature and anything well written, fantasy or not. I'm also a film buff (And not simply the geek ones :D). Also a big music fan. Gaming is my biggest hobby, though. (Computer gaming died by the wayside when I picked up "The Adventure Begins Here!")

sloppy - Not sloppy, appropriatley disheveled.
unwashed - I'm clean enough to eat off of.
obsessive - Sometimes.
skinny/fat guy - I used to be very heavy. Now I am very twig like.
poor social skills - Shyness is an after effect of listening to whiny indie music.
male - Indeed.
under 30 - Not even close.
bearded - I couldn't grow a full beard if I wanted. I'm naturall lacking much facial hair.
wears lots of black t-shirts - I don't see what black t-shirts have to do with geekdom. But I do have some, of course.
plays Evercrack obsessively - Psh. EQ is suck. World of Warcraft for me...
lives in his parents' basement - Not the basement. I live at home, but then again I'm only 19 and I go to school locally. So shut up.
doesn't have a job - naughty word student job. Does that count?
never had a girlfriend - Nothing I would bother to count as an actual relationship.
enjoys geeky hobbies apart form gaming - Yes.

It's amusing, to me, to see the number of people who rate themselves low on this "geek scale" and go on to say, in the same statement, that they "hide" the fact that they game, or their more ... esoteric (?) hobbies from the rest of society.

You know, if all of you zeroes and ones and such weren't ashamed of your hobbies, you might find yourself changing the general stereotype.

Oh yeah, and I'm a zero myself, if not a negative-one. And when asked why I'm not coming out to the pub/going to the ballgame/won't go to the show when invited on a Sunday, I always say, without shame, that I run a D&D game on Sundays.

Those few people who think that's "strange" or "geeky" or that I'm some sort of creep because of my hobbies... well, they don't get to be my friend/companion/girl anymore. And that's their loss.

I don't have time for people who don't accept me for who I am. And I don't hide.

Are you from Ohio too? I'll assume you are due to the Cincinatee thing and I didn't hear that Ohio had successfully annexed it to someone else.

I am an open gamer too. The only time I don't admit to gaming is during job interviews. I'm not going to risk not getting a job I want over personal prejudice any more than I have to. After I get the job eveyone will know, eventually. I've been married 14 years, but one of the marriage pre-reqs was that she not give me any flack about gaming. She hasn't been perfect about it, but she has been very fair and reasonable, so I'm not complaining.

Plus I am all about accepting people for who they are. That doesn't mean I'll like them, but I don't condemn them, unless they are a sick psycho who hurts people. Then I prefer to just shoot them and move on.

As for gamer geekiness, as I get older I get closer. When I started I was the big football jock who was a bully, jerk, and just all around butt opening. I've gotten a lot better since then.

Now I am overweight, usually clean shaven, usually clean. I own a few black T-shirts, shorts, and pants. Black, grey, and blue are my favorite colors, and I dress for me when I am not working. My favorite shows are House, CSI, CSI: New York, SG1, and Battlestar Galactica. I like Star Wars, Star Trek, used to read comics, and love LoTR. I have hobbies other than gaming, such as collecting and cutting gemstones and doing jewelry designs with my wife.
I don't, and have never, play Evercrack or any other on-line game. I don't play PS2 very often. Maybe 5 hours since January 1st. I do play computer games and spend maybe an hour a day on message boards, when I actually do visit.

I have never been to a Con of any kind, but I do want to one day.

sloppy - Not really
obsessive - Of course
skinny/fat guy - I'm actually quite skinny
poor social skills - Sort of, but then again I only interact well with people I like and thats not many.
male - Obviously
under 30 - I'm 17
bearded - Nope, but I do look like Shaggy if I forget to trim my attempt at a beard
wears lots of black t-shirts - I got 1 and its like XXL
plays Evercrack obsessively - Everwhat?
lives in his parents' basement - I'm 17 so of course
doesn't have a job - Nope, I work as a consular at a summer camp for kids with disabilities. In fact I'm there now.
never had a girlfriend - So I haven't hade a chance to convince Michelle Trachtenberg to date me yet.
enjoys geeky hobbies apart form gaming - Yes.

I've never bitten the head off of a live animal, but I do know that is what a "geek" was originally so that may work against me.

sloppy - in terms of personal apperance usually not, in terms of prefered living environs yes.
obsessive - yep
skinny/fat guy - not really either
poor social skills - I can fake it.
male - yes
under 30 -nope
bearded - not anymore
wears lots of black t-shirts - a few, but by no means all the time
plays Evercrack obsessively - no, never been into online gaming.
lives in his parents' basement - nope
doesn't have a job - I have the most non-geek job ever - Baptist Pastor, but then I also do freelance gamedesign so maybe the two cancel out.
never had a girlfriend - Happily Married to a very attractive red head (who just ran her first game this weekend, I am soooo proud)
enjoys geeky hobbies apart form gaming - yes, comics, CCG, minis games, computer games, scifi/fantasy fiction, reserach into the strange and unusual - but at least I am not into "fiber art" those people are really geeks.

In my heart and head I am a pretty big geek, but it only takes walkign into the FLG/CS to know that I can pass as a mundy.

Ok, then.

sloppy - Quite the opposite - fastidious you might say.
unwashed - Shower every morning, more often if I've been doing chores or been outside. I think the fact that I even go outside lowers my geek factor a bit. I *like* the sun.... ;)
obsessive - Rarely.
skinny/fat guy - More muscular.
poor social skills - I tend to be quiet, but can hang with the best of them at sports bars, casual events, or formal parties.
male - Yes
under 30 - Mid-thirties.
bearded - Never.
wears lots of black t-shirts - I have some old concert shirts and some "geek" shirts, but never wear them. Way too hot. Give me a nice blue or green shirt instead.
plays Evercrack obsessively - Bleh. Can't stand MMORPGs at all.
lives in his parents' basement - Own my own home.
doesn't have a job - Have a very stable job with a very good salary. And 4 weeks paid vacation!
never had a girlfriend - Married now, but had quite a few before.
enjoys geeky hobbies apart form gaming - Yes. Sci-fi, video games, and comics.

Most people are surprised to find out that I play that "D&D" game. I have a professional job at a large financial institution, am married with two cats and a dog - have three cars (including the indulgent sports car), enjoy cycling and working out, hanging at the park, hiking - anything outdoors. I dress casual - but upscale casual. Clean-shaven, short hair. Nothing outwards that would say "hey, I'm a geek too!"

But, I do have a gaming room - or gaming basement in my case, with all the bookshelves, the gaming table, the computers, books, video games, minis, action figures, legos, dvds, etc.

So, I am putting myself at a 1. If you know me, then you know I have a geeky side, but if you just met me, you wouldn't really think I was geeky.
