It is my personal goal/lifelong quest to scar/scare as many gaming virgins as possible. I make gaming jokes in mixed company more often than when surrounded by just gamers, and I once shouted "make a saving throw versus fear, meat!" whilst chasing a neighbor kid. Of course, that could be my misanthropic side showing itself, but I will maintain that I just like making gaming jokes.

Some people play games of "Penis" in the mall (that is, saying penis to a random person and walking away without them seeing you); I play "Konami Code".

If nothing else, I amuse myself.

Because I'm a woman, 45, don't like black t-shirts generally, have never played an online game, and have a professional job and my own house.

Oh my, this sounds just like me! Except for the black t-shirts--I do have a drawer (nearly full) devoted to said apparel, including a shirt with <GEEK> on it. I am obsessive about RPGs, spend way too much time here (although not enough), have RPG publications to my credit, refer to injuries as "crits" and figure out stats and saves of characters in movies and people in real life. I'm considered a research geek and a technogeek, but I'm really not sure I'm a gamer geek, if we only define it by apparel and bad personal hygiene.

[Yeah, S., feel free to jump in and disagree.]

You know, if all of you zeroes and ones and such weren't ashamed of your hobbies, you might find yourself changing the general stereotype.
The odd thing about "coming out" is that most folks wouldn't take the D&D stereotype down a notch (from 4 to 3), they'd probably move me up a notch from a 1 to a 2.

D&D's nerd/geek stigma is stronger than my (or probably any one player's) cool image. See, nobody looks at Vin Diesel and says, "Hey, D&D must not be as nerdy/geeky as we've always thought." They look at Vin and say, "Wow, Vin has a nerd/geek streak not immediately apparent."

I only rated myself in the somewhat category, but I'm having second thoughts. I would actually have a huge collection of "geeky" t-shirts if only they would print that kind of stuff on non-unisex shirts. I hate those kind of shirts. So I'm relegated to expressing my inner geek in little ways by buying Old Navy t-shirts with things on them like "Miss Spud" (my fave) or "I <sumo> Tokyo". :D

I realized my geekdom was large when it occurred to me that I am trying to teach myself to speak Elvish. :p And my desk here at work is covered in fairy and dragon figurines. My computer wallpaper is a photo of my friend's pet rat menacing a bunch of D&D minis.

I am truly a geek. Wheee!!!!

I certainly qualify as an oddball, if not an outright eccentric, but not in accordance with the 'gamer stereotype.'

I don't wear t-shirts, only button-ups or long-sleeved shirts. I only wear jeans when circumstance dictates, preferring slacks and corduroys. I wear a (neatly trimmed) beard, but with short hair. I'm not obsessive about hygiene - I just love taking showers. Mmmm... showers.

I don't watch television at all, and so don't watch the Sci-Fi channel. I haven't read comic books in years. I don't bring up gaming around non-gamers, mostly because in many ways I'm sick to death of the subject!

On the other hand, I don't have a girlfriend and actually do live with my family, but that's because in the former case I have a devil of a time meeting attractive young arch-traditionalists and/or monarchists who don't have a strong religious affiliation and in the second because I don't subscribe to the same cultural biases as you degenerate moderns ;) - why cripple my finances and deprive myself of the advice of my elders by moving out when I don't even have a fiance?

I have a steady job, or at least as steady as freelancing can be. That freelancing often crosses into the gaming industry because it's proven easier to get a fair shake in than fiction, and I seem to be good enough at it to attract some interest from those giving the aforementioned fair shake.

Hmm, let's see:

Likes role playing games, board games, war games
Plays one game or another at least 3 times a week
Likes Science Fiction and Fantasy movies and books
Works with computers and spents a lot of time on the internet
Overweight and lives in parent's garage
Has had multiple hour long conversations about gaming, comics, science fiction in person and on the internet
Likes physics and math
Currently no girlfriend
Wears T-shirts and jeans and has a beard

All check for me. Guess that makes me the highest rating of Uber Geek

I gave myself a two.
I dont live at home with mom and dad in their basement(Altho if the oppertunity ever arises heheh)
I have a full time job, pay rent and bills(when i can)
I shower daily, usually before work.

My geekiness qualities. well, I tend to ramble on about what books i am reading at work, and talk about my game that i run with the un-enlightened.
Obsession well, if you ever seen my collection one room in my two bed room apartment is dedicated to my gaming stuff,i got 4 book shelves full of RPGs, alot of the d20 garbage that i bought. Rifts, Deadlands, Gurps, and a few odd and ends rpgs, while my first and second edition ADnD are still in boxes in my closet. I keep my core library on a bookshelf in my living room. I spend way too much on stuff that i will never use. Now a days i only but things that i know i will use. I see myself more as a collector than anything else.
My other hobbies is playing an online game called Aardwolf. Its free, and its A MUD all text baby. I am obsessed with Horror movies, and books, and have quite an extensive collection of stephen king, and Dean koontz as well as an assortment of fantasy books, as i said i am a collector :P
To top it off, i meet one requirement, i am overweight :P heh but no beard cant have one cause of work.bleh...
Hmm..i feel like i am writing a personal ad for geeks :P

Slaunt

I rated myself as a 1, but that can be confusing. So allow me to address first the list that everyone seems to be responding too.

sloppy - My desk and bedroom perhaps, but *I* know where everything is. However I don't see how this applies to just geeks. I've seen more than my share of sloppy "gangstas" and jocks.
unwashed - Not true for me, but certain pungent con-goers perpetuate this one.
obsessive - Be more specific. If you mean obsessive about gaming, well that's a bit unfair. I'm obsessive about EVERYTHING. Gaming, sports, motorcycles, etc. And frankly I suspect that a large number of people in the world who aren't gamers as obsessive about their hobbies as well. Another bad example.
skinny/fat guy - Wait a second... being either skinny OR fat is a stereotype? Well that's just damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'm a bit overweight, but if I actually went to the gym on a more regular basis I'd be built more like the football/hockey/rugby player I used to be.
poor social skills - Most people just have poor social skills when it comes to interacting with people different from themselves. Put a rockstar at GenCon, and they'd be at a loss for words too. But I like to believe that I'm a people person.
male - Yes, but again a stupid part of a stereotype. Correct me if I'm wrong, but last I checked there were many non-gamer males in the world.
under 30 - 23, but see above.
bearded - Goatee, but nothing worse than you see on an average white baseball or hockey player.
wears lots of black t-shirts - Tshirts yes, but mostly sports team shirts. (I have too many items of clothing with Patriots logos.)
plays Evercrack obsessively - No, but I am a game developer working on an MMO. Does that count?
lives in his parents' basement - Apartment, alone
doesn't have a job - Computer game developer. Geek job for the win!
never had a girlfriend - My last gf I met through my TFC clan, so yeah we were a pair of geeks. But you wouldn't know it looking at us.
enjoys geeky hobbies apart form gaming - Sure. Babylon 5 I have a soft spot for. But I also play competitive Ultimate Frisbee and waste more money than I probably should on paintball.

I fully admit to BEING a geek, and I don't hide it, but I don't fit the silly stereotype which apparently hasn't changed in 20 years, despite the changing demographics of "geeks".
