Stargate Atlantis crept ahead in the ratings for Friday, August 12, as each of The SCI FI Channel's original series maintained a pace on par with the season to date.

Stargate SG-1 earned a 2.0 average household rating at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific with "The Powers That Be." This is even with the previous week's episode, and represents more than 2.4 million viewers.

Stargate Atlantis scored first place for the night at 9 p.m., with "Condemned" earning a 2.1 household rating. This is up 10 percent from last week's 1.9 rating.

Battlestar Galactica wrapped up the evening with "The Farm" at 10 p.m. The season's fifth episode earned a 2.0 rating, up from last week's 1.9.

The three series earned 1.2, 0.9, and 0.7 ratings in their late-night returns.

The fourth episode of Firefly earned a 1.2 rating at 6 p.m. (outside of primetime), up one-tenth of a point from the previous week.

That's pretty good that about 1.2 million people showed up to watch Firefly at 6pm. I wonder if they waited around until it actually aired at 7pm, and how many more joined them. ;)

So far, here are the ratings for each show up the Friday before last. It looks like Stargate:SG-1 definitely has the steadiest audience.

Stargate:SG-1
7.15.05 (Season Premiere) - 2.1
7.22.05 - 2.1
7.29.05 - 2.0
8.5.05 - 2.0

Stargate:Atlantis
7.15.05 (Season Premiere) - 2.2
7.22.05 - 2.0
7.29.05 - 2.0
8.5.05 - 1.9

Battlestar Galactica
7.15.05 (Season Premiere) - 2.6
7.22.05 - 2.0
7.29.05 - 2.0
8.5.05 - 1.9

Firefly
7.22.05 (Series Premiere) - 1.3
7.29.05 - 1.2
8.5.05 - 1.1

What these numbers do not reveal is a dedicated and large group of people grabbing BSG episodes off of the net via Bit Torrent and newsgroups.

Galactica's following is both dedicated and substantial.

That's great for them. But wouldn't it be better if the people downloading it watched it on Sci-Fi instead? The ratings would go up and that's got to be good for the show.

I never understand the idiots who download it and never watch it on TV. I mean don't they want them to continue to making the TV shows?

A bit hard to do when you're not in the US, and the TV channels available in your country treat sci-fi and other genre TV with utmost disdain.

And then you are not in the ratings no matter what.
Sorry but more people watch bsg is not going to help you need to get more neislien people watching.

How would watching any of these shows on Sci-Fi help their ratings?

Through the magic crystal ball that network executives use?

Or the big-brother-is-watching spies monitoring my cable and/or tivo?

you guys have heard of nielsen ratings right? The super secretive method of television ratings that might or not be completely inaccurate but is the industry standard?

From their site:
"How many "Nielsen families" are there?

There are 5,000 households in the national People Meter sample, approximately 20,000 households in the local metered market samples, approximately 1,000 metered homes for our national and local Hispanic measurement, and nearly 1.6 million diaries are edited each year. "

Not sure exactly what that means except 1> their sample size(s) are tiny and 2> what's on my television has absolutely no impact on the ratings.

Can you ever make a point without insulting other people? Just wondering because, so far, I haven't seen it. :\
