Ravenloft 3rd edition - worth getting?

What the previous guy said. Really. The site has lots of detailed reviews. And I've gotten every single one of the Ravenloft 3E stuff. (I'm a book whore).

I really like most of it. The Gazeteers are particularly cool and useful. Lots of good material in there.

The only one of the 3E Ravenloft books I picked up was Van Richten's Guide to the Shadow Fey, and it was really, really cool. I did look over the hardcover in the store, as well as Denizens of Dread, and the hardcover was pretty good, though I didn't end up buying it. The main reason I wanted it was the fear rules, as well as the Vampire, Mummy, Ghost rules at the end of it, but I was squeezed for cash at the time, and couldn't justify the expense.

Overall, the books are pretty good, and I'd definitely recommend checking them out. I'm not sure why anyone would say they suck, from the ones I've looked at.

These days, White Wolf online store is selling most of the RL catalogue at 50%+ off.

You should buy the Ravenloft players handbook (the 3.5 rehash of the RL setting book. However, the editors added a few "new" rules that are highly controversial among RL fans, to say the least. If you get this book, read fan reviews on the FoS site to quickly pinpoint those bad rules you should avoid).

Indeed!

Van Richten's Arsenal was good, but I found the rest of the 3e RL stuff pretty disappointing, especially the revision of Masque of the Red Death.

Yes, indeed. You will note that I didn't include the Masque book in the must have in 3e list. I agree, this book has many flaws. However, the fans of MotRD changed a few things to make it work and it seems to be working good now.
