Can you tell me why it is people have the most insistent urge to Zip their PDFs?

It wouldn't bother me except that at work, I do not have access to any normal Zipping utilities. While I can use a command-line tool, doing this is a pain (I have to keep it in a fairly deep directory to be able to execute it) and I rarely find the effort worth it. And most people in my situation would be at an absolute loss...

So again, can you tell me why it is people have the most insistent urge to Zip their PDFs? They don't even compress terribly well (usually).

I once asked Stu of the K the same question. Now that I'm one of the founder of a web site, I can appreciate more his reasons: many people still have a slow connection and computer. So when the PDF browser have to open slowly after a slow download, many people complain that it isn't working. As a webmaster, you save yourself a lot of hassle by doing it that way.

It's quite weird by the way to have a company enabling downloads from their employees but not zipped file (or the tool to unzip files). Change company! :)
