Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within Announced, Release Date Scheduled for June 2026

We know she has been in negotiations with WotC, so someone seems to think it matters.
WotC is interested in Weis and Hickman writing new Dragonlance books. They may also be involved in the writing of any new Dragonlance movie or TV projects.

While it's possible WotC might negotiate on setting lore in the RPG for Dragonlance or Ravenloft . . . I find that highly unlikely to be brought up by either party.

WotC aren’t going to wind them back because some older players can’t abide change.
That's kind of hilarious. Whether Soth is kept removed from Ravenloft or added back in, either way, we have "older players" salty about changes. Folks insistent that Soth doesn't belong in Ravenloft are "older players" who can't abide change.

If a tree falls in the Shadowfell and there is no PC to observe it, does it make any sound?
So, just because your imagination doesn't allow for Shadowfell and Feywild games outside of domains, doesn't mean the rest of us are so limited. The books support adventure both inside and outside of the domains. It's anecdotal, but I've played in and run games taking place outside the domains.

If I put my hand inside Schöringer's box and a cat bites me, will I turn into a zombie?

Oficially the time-travel is canon in Dragonlance and Ravenloft. If Vecna could create his own guild of evil chronomancers you can imagine the possible troubles.

I wouldn't be too surprised if some divine power wanted Kitiara to return, for example to save the day against a worst menace. The Greygem could start to create troubles style monsters from new-weird fiction.

* My opinion is Sithicus is now within Krynn Shadowfell. There lord Soth isn't torment by the Dark Powers by some Krynnian deity.

Other Sithicus would be a new layer within the Krynnspace Abyss, the "bad ending" where Raistlin defeated the rest of gods. The irony is this to be visited or invaded by intruders who want to kill the dark lord to become "king of the hell"

My theory is in the end the iconic character of Dragonlance will become quasi-gods, even the villains, with some cosmic event causing multiple timelines. One of them a mash-up with Dark-Sun to can sell action-figures and skins in Fortnite.

* What if Sergie is cloned and this is secretly mind-controlled by Strahd? The plot twist is this Sergei could be with Tatyana but this is not the real one but other clone. In the end this would create a second layer of the demiplane where the dark domains are togethers allowing space for plots about "international" conflicts. Also this core also would be full of underground dungeons working like "energy sources" for Valgavoth, the terror-eater lord of Duskmourn.

I'm not saying anything will or won't be included or walked back or changed, but . . . 25% of the monsters in the Monster Manual have lore directly contradicts their 2014 lore as well as how they were presented in various adventures pre-5.5e, so I'm not sure that anything from the 2014 era is "permanent."

If we think they wouldn't put Soth back in Ravenloft because Margaret Weis would be unhappy with it, its probably at least as distaistful to her that Krynn even HAS a Shadowfell. Krynn doesn't have the same kind of cosmology as other D&D worlds, when it's allowed to have its own cosmology.
  • The Dome of Creation
  • The Hidden Vale
  • The Abyss
  • The Elemental Planes
  • The Grey
  • Pocket Dimensions that serve as Fey Realms

Eve of Ruin also features a version of Tasha that has never been Iggwilv yet, and you visit the Death House before the way its portrayed in Curse of Strahd, so cross planar timelines don't appear to be as absolutes.

I still assume neither one came up. She is working on a new DL trilogy of books, and was at a meeting at WotC with Joe Manganiello, which would indicate talks about the DL TV series. Both feel like much more likely things to be involved in negotiations over.

sure, does that mean there is no Soth in RL? No idea and do not care either way…

I think this kind of stuff is why I they might not want to touch DL for a while when all this kind of stuff is getting sorted. The real vibe right now is getting everything aligned and everyone rowing in the same direction, so they really don't want what they are doing TTRPG side to be in conflict with the novels that are coming or a war of the lance TV.

the novels do not matter, the next trilogy is about Huma, so way before the war. The TV series on the other hand would be something to tie into. I am not expecting anything DL this year and probably not the next as a consequence

My suspects are the cosmology of D&D multiverse could suffer some retcon because Hasbro loves licencings. Some horror franchises could be wellcome to Ravenloft: Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Dead by Daylight(!?), Evil Dead, Capcom Darkstalkers, Ghostbusters, Bloodborn or even Hellraiser.

Other posibility is a new event within Ravenloft causing a spin-off that would be more postapocaliptic than the classic gothic horror, style Vecna ruling the world of the videogame "Brutal Legend".

I guess we await until the releasing of that Dragonlance production. If my own personal theory about Disney being implicated into this project was true then you could bet the cosmology of Dragonlance could be rewritten to justify possible crossovers or licencings, like skins for Fornite or special animated show "Phineas&Ferd: the isekai".

Yes, I love this kind of fool speculations.

Seriously there are reasons to think Ravenloft is wanted by Hasbro to become a multigenre subfranchise.

A crossover with a reimagination of Scooby Doo may be possible, although with a serious tone like the comic "Scoobie Apocalypse".

There was a strong case put forward for Season of Champions referring to Dragonlance, specifically a revamp of the War of the Lance adventure path. I found it convincing.
