Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within Announced, Release Date Scheduled for June 2026

for DL definitely, for Dark Sun not so much. Not sure how many martial UAs there were, are there enough for the martial equivalent to the 3q caster book?
Short answer: no.

We got storm heard and spirit barbarian, cavalier, intoxicated Monk and oathbreaker. All redos. No new ones. If it is a martial book, we got five subclasses that are all just updates. Doesn't seem a lot to fill a book unless you are going to load it with feats and backgrounds.

Yes, I would expect the DL modules revised for the current rules and edited in general, similar to Infinite Staircase.
With no Dragonlance specific rules included? Just sending the orc aberrant sorcerer, goliath world tree barbarian, the halfling arcane trickster and the aasimar celestial warlock out to fight Takhisis's armies, huh?

I would not be surprised… the last book did not have many subclasses either and I doubt a DL setting book would have a lot either. I’d except that to be almost entirely setting, not crunch

I would agree if I felt WotC learned nothing from Shadow of the Dragon Queen. However, both the Eberron and Ravenloft books took the effort to update their PC options. Dragonlance just getting the old modules again with no update to the feats, species or subclass (let alone expansion. Van Richten's Guide had three species and two subs. Horror Within has four species and at least triple that in subclasses) would really feel like a middle finger to the setting.

I hope it isn’t Dark Sun, because if they think it can be summed up as “Champions” they have really very seriously failed to understand the setting!

But it has to be an adventure, since 5.5 will be two years old at that point and only have one and a half adventures, and none of significant length. And they aren’t going to do Dark Sun as an adventure (again, unless they really really badly messed it up).

Not really, no - especially when you consider that most of those we have had have been magic martials.

Lord Soth shoots the odds TO 1%, considering it's a picture of him from his Ravenloft era, I'd put higher odds he's in the Darklords section alongside Chthulu rather than we get a Dragonlance release with no PC options.
The novels put him back on Krynn, they trashed Sithicus in VGR (because no one understands that stuff about Krynn elves), and he has appeared in two recent WotC products - in Krynn.

I mean, I would like the double-book treatment, but I don’t think DL needs a whole bunch of subclasses. There were not that many subclasses to begin with and Kender do not take up a lot of space if they want to update them, so if they want to just release an adventure in 2026, I don’t see anything stopping them.

I do not expect DL in 2026 at all, but if it comes it won’t have subclasses, none were in the UAs. If DL is coming at all, I expect the second half 2027 or even 2028 to be much more likely

One thing with Dragonlance - remember the lunar sorcerer? That didn’t really match the lore at all. 5.5 has a much better way to do wizards of high sorcery - using three backgrounds and accompanying feats. And that wouldn’t go through UA. You might be able to tackle Solomanic knights the same way.
