I would bet that as potentially disappointing as it might be, he's simply "back in Ravenloft".

... I find that we can often come up with cool and believable theories, only to find that the simplest answer is the correct one: He's in Ravenloft.
Yup, that is my operational assumption, honestly...but still, it would not be totally out of left field for a Dragonlance return.

Could also be a "what happens with a domain of dread when its prisoner escapes" and that have potential for some interesting things.
Could be they will take the First World echoes idea from Fizban's and the DMG and apply it to Ravenloft...Soth is both in Ravenloft and on Krynn, before, during, and after the War of the Lance...all in different ways in different Echoes.

Presumably, you need at least what was offered in the 5.0 DL book to be updated in the 5.5 one.
possibly, but I don’t think you need even that. Add a new Kender and call it a day. If you only publish an adventure, focus on that. If it will be a two book pair like the Fall ones then obviously include as much as possible

New players aren't going to see the appeal of it beyond it being another adventure path, but one they don't get make their own PC in. DMs
so no different from other APs, and it seems to be working for those

You are getting a hyper specific adventure path meant to be played with hyper specific characters in a hyper specific setting.
I doubt any of this will be true

I just don't know if redoing the classic adventures with different art and better maps is enough to resell it. It seems like even less than SotDQ offered
isn’t that basically what most anthologies did, heck even many of the full length adventures (Strahd, Princes of the Apocalypse, Tomb of Annihilation, …)

The SAGA version and associated books I think did much to cool people's interest in DragonLance, I know it did so for me and that the game line associated with it did fairly awful.
that and the whole 5th Age idea that was cooked up because TSR was not meant to have star authors, so in their attempt to bury Weis & Hickman they managed to kill the setting as a collateral
