Seems like Archivist or Spirit Shaman might be the two I want to focus on. I'm going to post a thread in the Rules forum asking about peoples experiences with them.

These are the two I would probably choose from.

Archivist is a neat class, IMO. The only problem that I would foresee as a DM is that some of the Paladin/Ranger spells should NOT be available quite so early. Not many, I don't think, but there's a couple of 4th levels spells which the Paladin wouldn't get until late but would certainly be buff for an Archivist at 7th level. The neat thing is that you can also do Domain spells if you can find Clerics with the right Domains, so you even get to have a few nifty Wizard spells.

The MAD can be annoying, but not necessarily. It all depends on what spells you prefer. Ironically, both times I've seen it used, it was a buffing/utility role which meant that Int for the DCs of spells really didn't matter at all.

The Knowledge ability can certainly be useful as well. I believe one of the Knowledges is damage and that can be kinda brutal if there's enough melee characters in the party.

As for the Spirit Shaman, never played one, but I've always kinda wanted to...

More thoughts:

With the Spirit Shaman, I was thinking of a very backwater character who might take a level of barbarian (likely a totem barbarian as detailed in the SRD or UA) as I said before, and whose race might be human, or some sort of elven race (wild elf being a likely choice).

With the Archivist, I was thinking of a very cultured character who seems almost ageless; a character who's very interested in life, the universe and everything - and how that effects the character and his god. Half-elf, human or perhaps a Grey Elf would be likely choices for races.

Dog Moon--

I'm not too terribly worried about the MAD in this case; I'll be participating in this game more for fun then powergaming, and thus things will be kinda casual for me. I'm still "burnt out", eh :p Thus, I'm just not going to be so gung-ho about everything. Please note, everyone, that I'm still going to do my darnedest to help out in the game; I'm just going to play it a little more loose then I usually do. For those who don't know: I made a thread in general a month or two ago mentioning how I was burned out from D&D, so I'm just still a bit more happy-go-lucky right now then I usually would be. Oh, and I wouldn't exploit that particular loophole either. Even thought it'd be neat :p

And yeah, the Spirit Shaman just seems like a fun class.

Hoorah - looks like a bunch of us are on the same general page then. :D

Hmm ... I am still leaning towards spirit shaman for some reason. :\

I've given some thought to both the archivist and SS and they both seem like fun characters. I'm going to refer to that page I made in the rules forum (and you guys!) and see where thing go in regards to deciding.

I think we (that is, all the players) will get along quite well with each other in the game then ... Perhaps a human would be a good class for the spirit shaman or archivist - extra feats and skill points are always a plus in the beginning!

Well, I'd post there, but I've already posted here, so I won't post there. ;)
