RC Presents....Free Cheese?

Raven Crowking

First Post
Hey there.

In the spirit of Some Cavern Encounters, Faerie Encounters, the Dread Mausoleum, etc., I'd like to post another free mini-adventure.

If anyone here has mad map-making skills, and would supply a fun map, I'll flesh out the encounters for it.

Glad to hear you have time for creating some more cheese.. but unfortunately I am not map-skilled :(

I will keep an eye on this thread tho !

I wonder if 'Free Cheese' will eventually make it into the gamer lexicon.. that would be funny!

If it does, it'll be all due to you, my friend. :D

I was happy to see people pick up "Color me Confused" and run with it, and the occasional reference to Bizarro Land in arguments. Bizarro refers, of course, to Superman comics, but "Color me Confused" is all mine!

In any event, I really hope that someone like Hellhound takes me up on this. There are some people making really interesting maps out there, but if I post something I'd rather have the mapmaker's permission first. If two or three cool maps get posted, I might try to link them. Personally, I prefer something that has three dimensions to something "flat" (the flatness of the WLD is the only significant problem with its map, IMHO). But you probably noticed that from my Cavern Encounters thread.

Huh?

I've been using that phrase (and similar ones) for many more years than I've been reading EN World. I picked it up from my Dad, who's never even visited the site.

So, back on topic, what kind of map are you looking for?

Really? I thought I made it up simple to demonstrate the level of confusion. I wonder if I picked it up from an older post without realizing it?

A good one. :D

Really, if the map is interesting, and is something that a DM might be able to plunk down in an appropriate spot in his/her campaign world, that's good enough for me.

I can recall variations of "Color me X" from back to the 1980s, I think. But that doesn't mean you picked it up from somewhere - parallel development happens.

Now, just so long as there isn't anyone moving your free cheese, everything is cool :)

AFAIK, "free cheese" belongs to Primitive Screwhead. :)

EDIT: Here are a couple of things I've been trying to poularize over the last 10 years or so, though:

1. PARENTING: To steal small items because you have kids and know you will need them. Ex: "I took the kids to McDonalds, and I parented a handful of napkins for later."

2. KIRKING: To have sex with someone you just met, to have random sex with strangers, or to have sex with a member of another species. Named after James T. Kirk of the original Star Trek series. Ex: "I kirked this lovely Orion girl I met in a bar."

I would have to dig back in the threads to confirm who the orginal poster was, but the 'free cheese' sprang from your convuloted 'what if' thread a while back that led everyone on a merry walk through a maze of sillyness. I simply jumped on the bandwagon crying for cheese at the end of the maze.. and since it tasted so good I kept coming back!

{not to say that I don't keep my sneakers with me in case the cheese moves on, but thats another story :p }

I like 'Parenting'.. done that on a number of occasions!
As to the other.. well, not my lifestyle choice, but a pretty descriptive term.

Not my lifestyle choice either; it came up in a discussion of the old Trek episodes. You know the one where Kirk is asked to stay on a planet, but has to decline in order to get much-needed medical supplies elsewhere. Then the girl enters the room. So much for medical supplies.......

I've got a set of sewer cistern maps that I'd poured a lot into for a game that's since died, if you care to give that a go. Of course, as a sewer, it does sorta suggest a developed city and all, so it may not be generic enough. Thumbnails included here.
