Re-Imagining

The question I would like answered is just how useless my 3rd edition material will be in 4E? None of the fluff is useless, I know that. But how difficult is it to re-imagine the material into the 4E format? One of my monster books is entirely made up of templates, will I be able to port this information to 4E without a major time-investment? Will the online tools, if I choose to use them, be helpful to me in this regard?

Ok, a few questions there. Here's my take on the matter...

It's not going to be all that difficult to reimagine the end result into 4e. The main thing that will go completely wacky is the Challenge Rating, but we all expect that. The other thing I'm hearing is that there's a different mathematical progression underlaying 4e, so attack bonuses and hp won't be directly transferrable... however, I expect that you'd be able to say, "Oh, +40 attack bonus, that should be +30 under the new system" or something like that.

(If I could run 1e monsters "on the fly" in 3e, I think it'll be easy for 3e->4e).

Now, templates are a different matter. They're likely to provide inspiration and not much else, although some might surprise you.

I don't know how much use the online tools will be here.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply Merric.. any other thoughts, or should I just go to that poll thread someone started after my post. :p
