Reach enchantment?

Is there a specific Reach enchantment? I'm thinking in terms of a polearm that normally doesn't have the Reach quality like a spear that could instantaneously transform itself to a (to continue the example) longspear to threaten distant squares.

This showed up in an issue of Dragon, sorry, no issue number. It was in an article with a bunch of drow NPCs, I think they were from the Spider Queen novels. If I'm remembering right it allows weapons to extend their reach 5 feet on command. A friend put this on his spiked chain.

Sounds like a +1 enhancement to me. As with activating any magic item it takes a standard action to change it's length and then you can't attack that round. As a free action, sounds like a +2 enhancement to me.

Theres also a spear in the MIC that can transform between a shortspear, spear and longspear...
