"Reality" Shows

When i want "Reality" shows I go out in public. Sign up for college courses. Things like that.

Why anyone would want it in their living room is beyond me.

Maybe its the "computer generations" need for social contact?

I view that most of the current "Reality Shows" are actually just Game Shows with a little different format/presentation. Shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race are just game shows with contestants trying to win big prizes ($1 Million for first place), just like in Price is Right and Jeopardy. I'm not really sure why the networks still classify these are Reality Shows.

Wow, you all must not be seeing the same stuff on TV that I have.

Have you not seen all of the amazing new scripted shows that have shown up in the past few years? Lost, Heroes, and Battlestar Galactica - I won't miss an episode. Heck BSG is why I have DVR. And there are plenty more out there.

I believe, that just possibly, the people producing scripted shows got a little scared by their careers getting threatened and started getting some new and original ideas that are worth watching.

I know that all of the good shows will get their imitators and the industry will hit a slump again, but for right now enjoy the good stuff while it's out.

I pretty much gave up watching TV when reality shows started to become the big thing. Now I don't have a TV at home. Instead, I watch DVDs on my computer whenever I feel that I need to watch something. Whenever I do happen to watch TV (usually when I'm on the road for work) I am amazed about how insipid much of the programming is. That's not to say that there isn't good stuff on, but the amazing amount of garbage is far in excess of anything worthwhile.

I personally can't stand reality shows. I watch TV to get away from reality. I admit that I did get sucked in to the start of Survivor, but after I saw how inept the contestants were I lost interest quickly. In my view, they should have tagged everyone with an RFID, dumped them on a deserted isle and tracked them all with a satellite in geosynchronous orbit. Then return when there was one person left. THAT is Survivor.

As for the shows that I like, they are in no particular order, Heroes, House, Criminal Minds, CSI (but not so much the spinoffs) Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica. Basically one show per day of the week. I usually surf Animal Planet or National geographic channel when there is nothing else on and I am lumping around the house.

The closest I come to watching a reality show is "Gene Simmons Family Jewels"; we think that is hliarious. My wife and daughter are fans of "Meercat Manor".

"Doctor Who" is great; "Midsomer Murders" is fun and we like the reruns of "Sherlock Holmes" and "Poirot". I agree about CSI; I like the original, can only take an episode or two of the others.

Once in a while we check out old detective shows on the American Life channel. My kid was freaked by watching something in black and white, but she now really likes the old "Twilight Zone" and "Outer Limits".

I watch Numbers, Heroes, CSI, CSI: New York (sorry, Miami/David Carruso is just toooooo preachy), House, Bones, and much to my surprise, Ghost Whisperer.

I'm starting to consider finding series that I like, quit watching them when I decide I like it, and then buying the season DVD set and then watch it.
