Realms and splatbooks?

If your playing in an FR game, is it canon to allow the use of the WOTC splatbooks? or is it only the FRCS?

Officially any WotC d20 product can be used with Forgotten Realms.

Splatbooks

The other problem is that most of the FR prestige classes are wizard based (ie, Magic of Faerun). As such, you almost have to tailor the splatbooks into the FR, or create some of your own for the other classes.

Why not? S&F itself says that you can always tweak the name and backstory of a prestige class to suit your campaign. Those are two of the examples they give, in fact.

Just replace the Great Kingdom with any other big, forgotten empire, and Hextor with any other LE war god.

Well, Scott, use a little judgement: Fist of Hextor becomes the Fist of Bane; Knight Protectors of the Great Kingdom become some Cormyrian regiment that has a rivalry with the Purple Dragons that turns deadly from time to time. That's the fun of being DM.
