Red text in the SRD?

I also noted this; in my case I copied and pasted the text of the powers of an Osyluth devil, and the word "Baatezu" was in red.

Strange.

Note that in Microsoft Word, many of its automatic features including "paragraph styles" formatting and "Paste" versus "Paste Special..." can really botch up what should be an uncomplicated copy-and-paste job. I've been fighting (using) Word for years and it just keeps getting worse in this regard. (I like to think I've got it under control, personally, but I digress.)

Add to this the fact Word sometimes interprets RTF/HTML tags very oddly (imperfectly), and if the RTF/HTML file was *generated* using Word (I wouldn't know) there's a whole new set of "translation" issues to deal with. And we might even have a Mac/Win thing going on, but I have no information there either. Anyway, I don't think WOTC has any kind of secret agenda; though it may be a cliche target, I blame the software....

Red text? Not surprising. Strikeout text? Confusing, but still not surprising. I always tell people to "Paste Special..." as "Unformatted Text" when Word's idiosyncracies complicate the whole copy-paste process. Then if you're doing your own reformatting and layout, start setting paragraph styles... etc.

HTH. HAND.

Do you by any chance have the "show revisions" option turned on? It really looks like the docs you're working on are displaying text that has been deleted. Word has this in there so that people can easily track what's changed from version to version, and also to let editors mark up a document.

So, stuff that's changed get a different color, stuff that's been deleted is shown as strikeout, etc.

It really sounds like this may be a Word mode, and not part of the contents of the document itself.

I got a reply over on the other boards - from Andy Smith, the guy works on the SRD, no less. He said it probably had something to do with track changes, though I'm not totally sure how that works. In any case, I turned my colors to blue, then inserted the psionic combat file into another one to make the funny text pop up, and it did - in red. Note that I haven't been C&P'ing the text, but inserting files - it's a lot easier. It might well have the same effects, though, in that it's simply copying the text over and converting it to the same as the rest of the document (which it does automatically), so it's not converting "special" text. I'll let Andy know, since he said he would be playing around with it.

I continue to blame the software. I've battled Microsoft Word over similar issues for far too long to stop doing so. :)

Using Word XP, I can't actually reproduce this phenomenon, but I stick by my earlier recommendation to "Paste Special..." as "Unformatted Text." This technique has never let me down, though I should mention getting the tables straightened back out will probably consume a lot of time.
