Redeeming an evil artifact *spoilers for printed adventure*

Himoura

First Post
Ok my DM is currently running a printered adventure, can't remember what its called at the moment but there are lots of undead, Orcas and drow, lvl 17 at the end of the adventure.

anyway not sure if this is the right spot for it but during the adventure i as a dragonborn good aligned cleric of the dragongod starting with B, I can't remember his name, picked up an evil aligned artifact, Nightbringer to be exact

Are there any rules for redeeming said artifact so that i can be used for good or should i just destroy it

That's pretty much something you need to work out with your DM. Some in character research is probably appropriate.

I find it amusing that my group, Merric's group, and your group apparently all hit this point in the adventure simultaneously. (plus any number of others, of course)

Course, I don't think we're trying to redeem it in my group.

Ah, indeed I do. Hi, Greg, I guess (based on his LJ post). That makes it way less coincidental.

At any rate, I'd still talk it over with him and do some in game research. In our group, we know the sword wants us to strike out against Orcus and likes undead. We also know it doesn't like good clerics or radiant energy. So mostly we figured we'd concentrate it on how much we plan to go after Orcus and stab him in the eye with Nightbringer a lot. Our DM is running the sword as very difficult to work with, though, so I don't expect we'll be able to redeem it.

Maybe we'll be wrong. You might know more about its backstory than we do. I'd suggest keeping it happy and excited by killing Orcus folks and avoid encountering good clerics for as long as possible to avoid a bad concordance. Butter it up with how powerful it is, and how Orcus didn't make it, and find out how it was made and such, to see if there was something bad done to it in the past to make it evil?

yes I'm Greg

ok cool I'll try that and I'll try limiting the number of good aligned clerics to me, who is going to attempt to wield it, should be very ammusing to watch our next combat. I'll see what i can do about the buttering and etc.

like i said at the op, if it can't be redeemed i guess I'll just have to destroy it or something. i wonder if it could be ground down into magic dust stuff and i wonder how much it would be worth

Generally you can't dust artifacts, and trying to do so might make it do something like teleport away to an enemy. Usually there's some special thing you have to do in order to destroy it - in this particular case, I wouldn't be surprised if Orcus dying destroys it, or something similar.

It's kinda awesome that a good cleric is wielding it, though :)
