reduce size spell

Even though it's not 1st level, Shrink Item does not mention requiring the target to be unattended or describe anything about what would happen if some force would interfere with the spell's magic.
Well, it allows a Will save to negate the effect if the targeted item is not unattended.
Without any house ruling this spell effectively allows a level 5 wizard to instantly kill someone with just a touch attack.
To the contrary it _would_ require houseruling to deal any damage at all.

Why should it instantly kill someone?

Also note, that FAQ answers exist for similar scenarios (trying to use Feather Tokens to crush creatures). What actually happens is that nothing (bad) happens.

I thought non-magical objects couldn't make saves. I don't see how the will-power of it's owner can help the object resist a spell.

Ok, so now I have to check the books, the errata, and then the FAQ. I wish they could at least merge those last two.

What's also odd is this...
Player's Handbook said:
Sympathetic vibration cannot affect creatures (including constructs). Since a structure is an unattended object, it gets no saving throw to resist the effect.

Although unrelated to the thread topic it's interesting that the FAQ refers to DR/silver as supernatural in one case and as extraordinary in another.
