2e had all of the archaic complexity of 1e, with none of the fun or spirit. . . In short, 2e is responsible for more people quitting D&D and quitting roleplaying than any other rpg in the history of gaming. . . .
When TSR went bankrupt, I thought that was it... 2e had killed TSR, and TSR's fall would surely lead to the end of roleplaying. . . .
So, with that said, and given the inherent blandness of the 2e system, its lack of fun, its overcomplexity, and the fact that it was designed by a company that hated gamers, thought it could "tell gamers what they'll play", and nearly drove the entire hobby to ruin... why would ANYONE want to play 2e ever again?

Nisarg, stop beating around the bush. Tell us what you *really* think of 2e. :p

Yes, a good DM can run anything well. However, for me to play in a 2E game, it he would have to be a 9 or 10, for me to consider it.

Tough call. MAYBE if I had no other gaming possibilities and maybe if the house rules and chosen rules sets were acceptable, I could see it.

But I almost quite D&D during the 2e era. The only thing that kept me on was a highly tweaked Skills & Powers / Players Option. Before PO, the system was entirely too inflexible for my taste, and PO itself needs some a few specific house rules to make it tolerable.

Nope. I simply won't play 2E anymore. 2E killed my interest in D&D for many years (until the release of 3E), so I have no desire to go back to it.

Honestly, the only other editions of D&D I will play other than 3E is Basic.

I hate to do a Me Too post but this is exactly my feelings also

No.

The only system changes I want to see from 3.x are more oppsed skill tests and possibly removing Attacks of Opportunity. In 2e we always played with at least five pages of house rules.

way behind d02 for the worse thing that ever happened to D&D...

but still if the DM were good i'd try it.

OD&D(1974) is the only true game. All the other editions are just poor imitations of the real thing. :D

No way. Right now I can't afford to DM for my group due to time constraints, but if it was a choice of DMing 3e for them despite my time issues or having someone else run 2e, I'd go ahead and DM. But I'll never go back to 2e again.

There is no system so incredibly bad that a good GM and players cannot make it fun. So, yes, with the right people, I'll play 2e.

There is no system so incredibly good that it cannot be ruined by a bad GM or players. So, with the wrong people, I'd rather not play at all.

I have played every version of D&D except OD&D.
2E is on the bottom of the pile.

<Trying not to go into a diatribe about the wretchedness of 2E>

I once had a guy say that he'd join our group, but only if we stopped playing 3.xE and switched back to the superior 2E.

We sent e-mails back and forth for about a week where would trash 3E and I would point out its superiority over 2E and that 2E was horrid. We stopped before it became a true flame war.

I later heard stories about this guy's game. It involved 90% role-playing and parts of the role-playing would involve him telling you what your character was doing!

What a maroon.
