Reflex save and Items- Rules Q.

When it gets really nasty: Not only are all items owned by a dead character unattended, but his corpse counts as an unattended, non-magical item as well.

So not only can a fireball destroy all his gear rather easily, but it can turn his corpse to ash as well, requiring a Resurrection instead of a Raise Dead.
Zowey, that is a good point. It probably would not be ash but ruined somehow.

How would you handle if the bag of holding were inside a backpack? The backpack be destroyed automatically and then would all the items in the backpack need to makes a save? or would they be safe?

That's right. According to the fireball spell:
If the damage caused to an interposing barrier shatters or breaks through it, the fireball may continue beyond the barrier if the area permits.
